Makhleb's altar tile

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Makhleb's altar tile

is not very informative about the god, making it one of the two worst altars. It's a flickering flame. What could it mean? It could as well be used for Veh, Qaz, TSO. It mostly points to the bias of Makhleb's invocations toward fire damage and against ice damage. But, a much more notable aspect of Makhleb is the focus on health. HP on kills, HP for abilities, and by the way, blood and souls. A blood-flavored altar tile would be more appropriate, thematic, and would better align new players as to what playing Makhleb is all about (e.g. that you can use it for DD). I imagine a geyser shooting blood, but even placing the fire onto a pool of blood would be an improvement:

Blood fountains are used elsewhere in the game to represent Kiku

Re: Makhleb's altar tile

blood fountains are already associated with Makhleb too, and dry fountains would fit Kiku better anyway IMO. as for console, the altar's text description is easily the worst of all altars:
  Code:
A burning altar of Makhleb.
An ever-burning altar to Makhleb the Destroyer. Strange, twisting shapes are visible in the flames.

It's a fine description, what do you dislike about it?

Re: Makhleb's altar tile

it doesn't really hint about the god in any way that you may guess its gist. HP on kills? no. HP for abilities? no. Chaos? no. Destructions? he's a Destroyer with a capital D, but that's it. Summons? ehhh, it's a stretch to suppose that the strange, twisting shapes are servants to be called forth. Fire and eternity and strangeness and metamorphosis are the themes mentioned, but Makhleb's not about that. The description isn't even something you'd connect with after playing Makhleb.

seems like a pretty clear connection to me

If all you ever did was sit in a little room with a rune and a bunch of ice fiends, you'd be pretty sad too
