I like to learn some form of transmutation or carry a wand of polymorph when i have -tele gear equipped on, specially when worshipping ash.

Except sometimes his vault is the one with a mace on every tile, which gives it a decent probability of a well-enchanted or artifact one! Also, he gives good XP, has an often-enchanted cloak, and you might want his weapon for some reason.

I just polymorph him or quaff might or agi or invis or somesuch, personally.

Poisoned needles, pretty much any ranged weapon with modest skill, or almost any starting book will kill him safely.
