many people say if luring includes problems, stair dancing is same.
but some people say "talk about stair dancing at another thread", so I made this topic.

It's a good topic to have. You just didn't follow this part of the guidelines:

Give your thread a clear title and provide as much detail as possible in your OP.

I like stair dancing, and find it fills a little-known niche between square dancing and line dancing quite nicely.

I think door dancing is a much bigger problem. monster opens door, you close door, monster opens door, you close door. repeat until your HP is full. that takes forever, but solves lots of problems. it shouldn't.

I think stair dancing is very boring move.
to increase warden or constrict is needed, imo.

So you hate the game, and you keep playing it to discover new reasons to hate it?

Everybody needs a hobby, I guess.

To help with better game design, need to design good thread first.

If you take away stair dance you have pillar dance, you take that away you have door dance, you take that away and so on until you have nothing. Combat in crawl is already too simplistic(im not talking about numbers), as annoying as some of those behaviors may be, they still add something to the game, so in order to take them away, you have to add something else. If you were to replace stair dancing with something, what would it be?

Quick fix to stair dancing: after using a staircase, you can't use it for x number of turns (like a Warden lock).

Fair enough. That would be the x turns I need to heal anyway.

This has probably been discussed before, but why not just let the monsters follow you up the stairs? Yes that changes a lot and in many ways makes the game quite a bit harder. But no more stair dancing! Problem solved. Yeah there's probably a glaring flaw in this I've missed. I'm sure someone will tell me ;)

As far as door dancing: if a monster is adjacent to a door, you can't close it. Period. In the real world you would not be able to close a door while a monster waits patiently for you to close it, only to reopen it again. They would push their way through the door and start pounding on you. Yeah I know, I have so much experience with real life monsters...
