Pteri is now bombarding the thread with decent if not spectacular artifacts, it seems... But I thought this was meant to be Best/Worst? :|

Let's just take "Best/Worst" as meaning "top and bottom quartiles"

So let's retitle the thread "Half of all artefacts".

Which leads to the silly idea of Taehiot, god of Enchantments and Greed (or Treasure Hunters?).
  • Gives 3 Scrolls of Acquirement as the 6* piety gift
  • Increases the chances of Enchant Scrolls working passively, allows them to reach higher levels (+12/+12?)
  • Biases Acquirement to be slightly better
  • Allows you to use Apportation, Insulation, Identify and Resist Poison as Invocations abilities.
  • Pray over weapons to automatically use a short duration Tukima's Dance on them (longer with higher piety), after which they dissapear into your gods treasure vault for eternity and you gain piety.
  • Also gain piety by discovering new item types and brands.
  • Mimics are friendly if your piety is high enough, and join your side like Beorgh and Orcs, and follow you around on the current level. Possibly, praying over a non-weapon item turns it into a mimic instead of invoking Tukima's Dance.
  • Possibly a means to disarm and disrobe (?!) enemies with a targeted ability.

Anyway, the god is really just interested in all of the treasure that is interred in the dungeon and needs you to liberate it, and give it to him/her. In return, he/she offers their subjects fortune in wealth and the ability to get more of it as well as the means to make their shinies even shinier. Personal greed to an extent is fine, but Redistribution of Wealth is the big byword.

In fact, what else is your quest for the orb if not a means to drag the ultimate shiny to the surface and ensure its power is distributed to the surface; these underground monsters have hogged it too long and this clashes with Taehiot's agenda.

Golden, Shiny, Larger than life, an imposing figure; that is Taehiot.

Huh, that somehow ended up mildly convincing. :o Kinda mildly clashes with Ash and Nemelex, but not a huge amount.

I guess Okawaru really wants me to use 2-handed weapons this game.

thanks for finding the thread for me, sorry about creating the new one. Anyways, there were some critics, but I honestly think this is good.

-3 ring mail {rF+ rC+ rN+ MR str+1}

Sure it would need a better base type/enchantment to be the best, but I have a hard time saying 4 resists is not a notable randart ;)

the +10,+11 halberd "Monuyl" (weapon) {slay drac, Str-4 Stlth++}

Probably not the best weapon of all times, but for a light armour polearm naga gladiator quite good, especially in Vaults/Zot with all that dragons around.

Love these gloves:
  Code:
 i - the cursed +1 pair of gloves of Tiywn (worn) {+Blink +Lev rF+ rC++ Acc+5 Dam+1 Curse}
   (You found it on level 26 of the Dungeon)

   It affects your accuracy (+5).
   It affects your damage-dealing abilities (+1).
   It protects you from fire.
   It greatly protects you from cold.
   It lets you levitate.
   It lets you blink.
   It may recurse itself.
   It has a curse placed upon it.

Recursing was actually a very nice perk for me, since I follow Ashenzari and am short on scrolls of curse armour. Handy for when I need to swap out a ring. And this goes nicely with it:
  Code:
 a - the +6,+5 falchion of the Hells {drain, rElec rF++ Dex+4}
   (You found it in Pandemonium)

   A truly terrible weapon, it drains the life of those it strikes.

   It affects your dexterity (+4).
   It greatly protects you from fire.
   It insulates you from electricity.

Not bad for my caster. With both artefacts and Lichform I have rC+++, rF+++ and rElec. Drain if I'm cornered and out of MP. I haven't played long enough to know if these are "top of the line," but they are the best of my randarts. :)

Okay so, it's not the best weapon I've ever found, but if you take into account where I found it...

(Playing a NaWz, hoping to get my second win as a streak from my first. Found troll leather armour on D1 and a ring of magical power on D2, then this on D4. Things are going worryingly well... Edit: and then found Pikel on D4, and he dropped a +2 robe {MR}. The RNG has got to be planning something...)

Just found this little diddy on dungeon level 8 on my new spriggan enchanter, also, first time i have tried spriggan enchanter, why have I not tried this sooner?!

+4, +4 sabre "fihutaf" (weapon) {holy, +blink, +Inv, rElec}

Oh and I found as I was running away from about 5 rotting devils, what luck. Shame I had just learned invisibility though.

I just found a book of transmutations too... what to do what to do... This is my first spriggan enchanter, is transmutations a viable route to get to the end game? Only going for a 3 rune run if I ever get that far.

Probably the strongest non-artifact I've ever found.

Yeah, only one god would benefit from it and only a few species wouldn't go below high run speed, but it's still a pretty nice suit of armor considering it came like that. If I didn't need my spells on that character, I might have used it (was a Centaur, so ponderous wouldn't have been that big of a deal).

Continuing the theme of redefining best/worst, here is my best artifact so far this game:
B - the ring "Jiyk" (left hand) {rC+ Str+5 Int+3 Acc+5}
Which gives me my first useful source of rC, on a draconian with a longbow and then dragon form, so I think the Str and Acc are more useful than usual.

Okawaru just gave me this:

  Code:
 g - the +0 plate armour of Khuejial (worn) {god gift, Str-5 Int-2}
   (Okawaru gifted it to you on level 5 of the Vaults)

   It affects your strength (-5).
   It affects your intelligence (-2).

Considering that I also have +6 artifact fire dragon armor and +4 artifact troll leather armor, I think I'll pass.
