I found another artifact with an awesome name; un-ID'd, it appeared a a crystal spear, so I thought, "Cool, LCS." I didn't bother ID'ing it; instead, I just wielded it to make sure.

It sticks to your hand! E - the cursed spear of Xom's Righteous Fury {pierce, rN+, Str+1}

Guess Xom got bored and was looking for ways to annoy people not following him. :)

This is an unrandart and it's been +4 +12 the two times i found it.

Just went on to wizard mode and created it, you're right, it was +4 +12 and a unrandart

Whenever things are too quiet in the game, just imagine getting a "Xom is BORED" alert (when you're not already following him) and realize that you're about to get screwed.

As a SpEn I just found the cursed -1 -3 broad axe of the Worlds End (Flame. rF-.) and I found this out because I equipped it. He is now resting on a marble slab in my large and well stocked morgue waiting to be disposed of by the cleaning ghouls unless his family (If there are any) claim him. Yet another YASD caused by clicking rather than shift-clicking.

I just found in a shop the +12 orcish plate mail of Loving Death (rF+ MR), it costs 8457 gold which will take some time to acquire. It would be a nice item for my HoPr though. Edit, the shop was on D:3.

Crap on a cracker, never have I had such awfully mediocre / outright terrible randarts. I have 8 runes, hit up two zigs (left around floor 12 each time) and I STILL don't have a decent piece of randart jewelry. What I DO have is:

The ring "Munumiun" {+Lev, RN+}
The amulet "Raifefocw" {Cons MUT}
The ring of Yredelemnul's Whim {rC+ Dam-1 MP+9} (useless cause I have max rC and 50 MP so it would be essentially Dam-1 MP+4)
The ring of Ughu {+Lev rElec rC+ MP+9} (again, essentially rElec MP+4)
The ring of Dischord {Hunger, Str+4}

the other five that were worse than those I have already sacrificed to Nemelex

Neither of those have penalties associated; at least you don't need a vanilla ring of levitation.

Yeah, but neither one is better than my +6 evasion, +6AC, +6INT, or +3 +5 slaying

Best artifact ever? A randart voratun greatsword that dropped in ToME once, when I was playing a CoBe. The fortunate character who found it then used it to obtain all four orbs of command before being obliterated by that *#&$*%@$# Argoniel in the Sanctum.

Here it is, in all its amazing wonder:

Zanylen (65.5-104.8 power, 4apr)

Massive two-handed swords.

Requires:
- Strength 48

Powered by arcane forces
Crafted by a master
3.00 Encumbrance.

Type: weapon/greatsword
It must be held with both hands.

Base power: 65.5-104.8
Uses stat: 120% Str
Damage type: Physical
Armor Penetration: +4
Physical crit. chance: +5%
Attack speed: 100%
Damage on strike(melee): +40 fire/+18 ice/+40 lightning/+55 acid
When wielded/worn:
Armor Penetration: +8
Physical power: +3
Damage on hit(melee): 3 fire

For those of you not versed in ToME, it's got the effect of two elemental brands at once -- just ONE is enough to make a highly-prized item -- for a total of about 150 extra damage each hit and a bunch of bonuses on top of that.

the +8 gold dragon armour "Etergh" {god gift, +Lev rPois rF+ rC+ MR SInv}

It seems to have been rather a dry spell for me, but this turned up in a labyrinth just before the end of the lair and seems to be one of the most useful early game items I've seen in a while:
the amulet "Zetriffye" (around neck) {Gourm +Blink +Inv MR Dex+3}
I'm a trident-wielding DS who also found a very early vampiric demon blade (Leech), which might just be worth switching to with that item.

As an amusing note, shortly afterwards, this one almost got me killed trying to take out the crazed wizard lair ending:
the ring of Temperance (right hand) {Ice Dex+3 SInv}
Great for seeing invisible thingies, not so good if they then start lobbing fireballs at you.
Although amongst my 4 rings of ice, I also have this for more general use:
the ring of Clingeixke {Ice Dex+2 Int+4}
Now, if Vehumet ever gives me a single ice-based spell beyond summon ice beast, I'll be set...

[edit] And for my sixth ring of ice by XL 16:
the ring of Skynnoje {Ice rElec}
Yes, I did take the hint and branch into ice magic. :mrgreen:

Is it theoretically possible for GDA to have rF+++ or rC+++ because of that quirk? (in other words, can they get the randart properties rF++ or rC++?)

Sigh, there I go thanking people accidentaly again. Damn you sleepiness!

My bet would be that, since the properties are included in the randart's inscription, you are probably going to get up to another level of rF+ or rC+, which is the usual limit. I don't think it would be possible to see GDA {rF+, rC+, rPois, rF++ and/or rC++} or GDA {rF+++ and/or rC+++, rPois} but GDA {rF++ and/or rC++, rPois} may be possible?

This one was pretty good:

d - the +6,+7 battleaxe "Veomig" {speed, +Inv rElec}

Of course, in the same game I had a trove that wanted 7 potions of speed. As it turns out, I should have kept the potions:

Image

Here's the crap those rooms held:

a scroll of detect curse
an amulet of faith
a stone of earth elementals
an air elemental fan

150 gold pieces
a pair of runed elven boots {a +1 pair of elven boots of stealth}
a glowing spiked flail {an uncursed spiked flail of protection}
23 silver darts

a scroll of noise
a glowing chain mail {a +2 chain mail of poison resistance}
5 runed arrows
420 gold pieces

a potion of healing
17 runed darts {exploding darts}
an encrusted iron ring {a ring of sustenance}
a runed elven robe {a +2 elven robe of positive energy}

[Edit: This was also the first game I actually managed to enter a trove.]

Ok, this is almost great:
the amulet "Qobuplev" {Cons -CAST Dex+4 Int+3 Acc+6}
Although I am not sure quite what my DsWz will do with it.

I really like it: My opinion is that there should be a lot more really good artifacts with -CAST to make the melee vs magic choice more difficult...

the ring "Ipul" (right hand) {rF++ rC+ Dex+2 Int+2}
the ring "Dewn" (left hand) {+Blink rElec rPois rC++}
the amulet of Ogye (around neck) {Gourm Str+5 Int+4}

nice assortment of resists right there, and free blinks :D the Int is nice too.. could care less bout the Str and Dex tho. Also: GOURMAND.

Well, what I like about Serne's items above is that he can wear them all together.
With that in mind, I just found:
X - the +2 pair of gloves of Hadjma (worn) {rF+ Int+2 Stlth++}
n - the +1 pair of gloves of Wonder {Dex+1 Int+5}
S - the +2 pair of gloves of Jisew {+Blink rPois rF+ rC+ MR SInv}

Sigh. All I need is a few extra hands...

It's not obvious what to wear for a character who is just about to learn IceStorm soon. if I put the gloves of Wonder with the right ensemble (inc armor), I think I can get a total of +17 to Int (+4,+4,+4,+5), which is not bad for XL20. Or, with Jisew and some item switches, I can get options like rF+++ rC++ and still a respectable +8 to Int; or rF+ rC+++ +8 Int and the robe of the Archmagi. Decisions, decisions.

I think that it's impossible to do so unless there was a race that could wear more than one amulet. rMut and rCorr take up the same spot. I think it would be pretty easy to fill all the elemental resistances, though, if you Necromutated and had good randarts or if you played an Octopode.

You could wear a cloak with preservation on it couldn't you? Or a yellow draconian would have it covered by their scales. Either way I agree it would be hard if not impossible to fill all the resist slots on the character screen.

You can get resist corr with a cloak of presevervation.

Just using the stuff I seen here:
Kenku Ash worshipper, clarity, sinvis, cFlight, Levitation
gloves rF+, rC+, rElec, rN+
Cloak of preservation (rCorr, Cons)
GDP, rF+, rC+, rPois
Shield of Protect, rC+, rF+
Randart boots with rN+
Ring of Control Telepot
Ring of Sustain abilites
Randart amulet of rMut with warding

That gives you everthing but the second/third pip of resist acid, the second pip of sustain abilities, guardian spirit, and stasis. The hard part is finding a stacked randart amulet. Also, Sapprovore is hard to get.

For all practicable purposes that is everything you need though and not too hard to get.

Yup, I'd agree, just with the current (not-quite-endgame) character I can get close already:
As a DS I've got rN++ (probably soon to be +++) and rElec.
A cloak of preservation was an awesome early find too. (Trunk only seems to have one rAcid slot???)
I have a shield of resistance (rF+ rC+). Robes of resistance are also fairly common - I'll return to Elf to search!
Gloves give me (rF+ rC+).
So that's most, without even getting into jewelery, hats (restricted by horns) or footwear. :)
I have to swap rings about to get cTele, but the spell is common enough. I almost never bother with SustAbs at all once I've found a few potions or jellies.
My weakness is rMut. ;)
Also, I suspect that enough extra Int for casters (or slaying for melee) to kill things faster might be worth sacrificing a pip or two for.

[edit] Ignore what I said about rAcid - I was looking at rCorr.

  Code:
The +2 troll leather armour of Insatiable Hunger {Int-2 Acc+1}
The -5 animal skin of Zin's Anger {Int+2 Acc+3} (gained from acquirement :/ )
The scimitar of Precise Incision {slice, MR}

:lol:
I was thinking that it would be great for an early TrBe:
Cons and Acc+6 are always great.
Dex helps with dodging, and a bit more with unarmed in trunk now (IIRC?).
Beserkers don't care about -CAST.
And finally, a young beserker with a very low Int might well like that bonus.
Of course, you'd probably drop it at the first sign of gourmand, but still, "almost"...
