other than knowing what they are by looking them up, you can tell if something is fixedart or randart by checking the description. randarts will have the same description as the base item, fixedarts won't.

I didn't use invocation much (my Op felt OP during middle game). Though I was wrong, eventually I switched to the amulet because entrance to depths had both Hell Knights and simulacra and couldn't get both rF+ and rC+ without the artefact.
But I indeed have rCorr/rMut amulets (and can buy regen amulet in a shop) so it made me weaker than before because now I should check brown ugly things and am scared by potential Caustic Shrikes.

It was in a shop and I hadn't bought it yet, realised my mistake when I could actually afford to get it.

Seems like the devs have improved Oka gifts as a compensation for nerfing Oka piety :) I think I usually get about 1 - 2 useful armour gifts per game, getting 3 in such a short time is amazing.

True, the gifts were really great. Also I found +8 chain mail {Slay +3}, amulet {Clarity, Slay +4}, bought +6 ring of slaying and got AC+2 and Dex+2 from potions of beneficial mutation. I quit the character in Snake, one-shoting Nagas is not right and UC bearkin is OP :(

It provided decent, reliable melee damage output with no skilling required, thanks to the +8, venom, and cleaving. Not sure what the problem is.

It's a shitty base type, with furthermore a ego good only early on which means on d:2 it would be a nice find, around lair probably lots of better weapons already spawned .

Not many 0 skill candidates better however. If for some insane reason im not going to put any XP into what im holding, i'd hold that till 2 runes. Its an uber posion dagger afterall

I almost never can bring myself to do that though, i'd want to skill it, and then yes. handaxe is suck. But as a pure poison applicator at 0 skill the enchant gives you the +hit you want and it does the rest with cleave. perfect....but i'd still skill it, or on Gr take M&F for Xtraining.

Bit situational maybe to be great.

it's not a terrible weapon at that point in the game though, just not amazing

Yeah, I was aware of that when I made the original post. I wasn't really expecting it to perform well when I wielded it.

Eh, I suppose it was a bit situational (there could have been better weapons, but in that game, there weren't. mediocre dagger egos, no other weapon artifacts at all) . But I would regard any weapon that allows a caster to reliably not suck at melee , with no skill, as pretty good (for a caster. I probably wouldn't bother for a melee start). So basically anything with a sufficiently large plus, including bad base types like scythe and hand axe, or a sufficiently large brand effect (elec).

It was also kind of remarkable in that it was a hand axe that wasn't terrible ;)

It's not like the armor skill is especially great for ring mail anyway. I wouldn't think twice about saccing armor if I knew I was going to wear ring mail.

Generally, I go down through D until I find something/some situation particularly threatening. I use it as a barometer of character strength since Lair and Orc are both really easy to die from lazy tabbing (oh I didn't see that orc sorcerer/oh shit now I'm surrounded by death Yaks), but I'm better at paying attention in D.

I usually find Lair to be slightly harder than the level the portal is on (though this probably depends a bit on what level it spawns on.) My usual pattern is D:12ish -> Lair. According to wiki, Lair can spawn down to D:11, so... basically I go through dungeon to deepest Lair spawn point, then Lair. This also means I generally don't have to backtrack from Lair:8.

Not top-tier artifacts, but among the best quality vs. depth I've seen.

Well... yeah, -3 strength for a GrBe, who cares?

Together with Maxwells Patent Armour from a "scroll of disappointment" I have 54 AC and 12 EV with 10 in Armour and 8 in Dodging... that's okay I'd say, now please Trog, gift me an acceptable weapon :evil:
