Well, the gloves could be useful to a character with extremely high AC like Gr in heavy armour.

Why 7?

Those gloves AND ring with AC+6 are identical to usual gloves +1 AND ring with {rF+ rC+ Str+3 Dam+4}. Not bad at all IMHO.

No, my point is that these gloves are situational, for some characters they can be very good.
It depends on
1) resistances (high EV character without any source of rC/rF)
2) AC (high AC character)
3) weapon speed (quickblade Ko/Ha).
4) even Str can be useful (it increases EV, I tend to increase Str on my spell-less characters in heavy armour)

Well, the gloves could be useful to a character with extremely high AC like Gr in heavy armour.


Unfortunately the dude in question is a Tengu Wizard who, at clvl 20, has 108 HP and 10 AC, so those gloves are absolutely not an option.

Yes, if you have really high AC and you are *reallly* hard up for your *first* pip of rF and rC in mid-game, maybe rolling with those gloves would be an option. Otherwise you are better off with some regular +2 hand armor. I would never use those gloves for bonus to strength or the +4 damage, as it is essentially "+7 damage for all opponents against you, +4 damage for you against opponents." Not good trade off at all, no matter what weapon you have.

My MiGl's first Oka gift: the +8,+4 executioner's axe of Chance (weapon) {elec, rElec rC++ Dex+2 SInv Stlth-}
This was after finding a fire dragon hide very early so I really needed the rC++.

Also on a different character the +14 chain mail of the Rose (worn) {Str+2 Dam+4} found on level 18 of the Dungeon
I hadn't seen an armor with that high of a bonus previously. I ended up wearing this the rest of the game.

I finally got my first win earlier today (GrEE^V), with the help of this pretty little number:
m - the ring of Monotheism (left hand) {+Rage rElec rF+ EV+5 SInv}

I never did use the +Rage and the rElec was redundant with being a Gr but it was a nice find.

Making up for earlier, I now have on my deep dwarf necromancer hybrid

+2 pair of gloves of the Elephant {+Blink rPois Int+3} (not out of this world, but quite nice)

and

+4, +6 ring of slaying
ring of Sukhlid {cTele +Rage rF+ Dam+6}


12 slaying on top of my +5 demon whip of freezing, with evocable berserk, is proving to be pretty effective I have to say.

Also same character bought the +2 robe of Gre Skal {rF++ rC+} earlier, and found the +12,+11 spear "Boep" {pierce, rPois} plus a +2 +7 and a +4 +7 slaying ring before entering orc or lair. Nothing like poking orc knights/death yaks to death as a wizard, though I did put 9 levels into polearms after finding the spear.

Does not look really great but it actually was excellent for early Necromutation: lichform character really needs clarity, and that high Int boost along with ring of wizardry and ring of Fire allowed to have powerful Fire Storm while having Necromutation at acceptable failure rate.

Seems pretty good. Granted I found it on a character that kills dudes with staff of fire/bolt of fire primarily, but it should make a nice swap.

my DECj is using this now as his main weapon :+3 Elemental Staff {rElec rF++ rC++ MR++ AC+5}

with these 2 rings:

t - ring "Pedigabo" {+Rage +Fly MR++ Str+3}
f - ring of Shadows {+Inv rN+ EV+4 Acc-4 SInv Stlth+}
and this armour:v - +5 steam dragon armour "Yviripufe" {Str+4 Int+2}


My other gear is all mundane unbranded though. I'm level 18 but still have to swap weapons for rPois, which is annoying.

The description says it causes magical contamination when unequipped. Does it cause magical contamination just while it's in my inventory even if I don't wear it? Doesn't it always cause contamination while you wear it, not just when you unequip it?

Anyways, a waste of an identify scroll.

No inventory item has a negative effect just from sitting in your inventory.

Contam used to cause contamination all the time you wore it, which made any artifact with it completely useless since you'd get constant bad mutations. Now, you only get Contaminated when you take it off. Unequipping gives enough glow to get a bad mutation or two, but if the item is really good like the plutonium sword it's still worth it.

While that was a severely disappointing artifact, the identify scroll wasn't wasted at all. It has just saved you from putting this amulet on and likely getting mutated.

I still cannot get over this armour. I've never seen anything like this in Crawl, didn't even know it was possible to be generated.

Probably the best heavy armour I've ever seen. That is insane indeed.

But so is this:

   It inflicts no extra harm, but heals its wielder somewhat when it strikes a

   It makes you much less stealthy.


I got this on a FoBe ^ Trog who 1) doesn't need to cast spells and 2) does want to have at least one level of poison resistance. AND I got this in Snake Pit of all the places, where poison resistance is kind of useful :D. So when we take the previous into account, I would say that this is probably the best (or at least top 3) weapon I've ever gotten in Crawl.

...*level in this case meaning "not having vulnerability to poison" which Formicid do naturally have. I guess the grammatically correct version would be "does want to have at least one source of poison resistance".

And yes, sweet it is. I don' want to clear the remaining living monster branches because winning would mean morgue time for this weapon :(.

Good? No. I am DsIE of Sif Muna with Str 8 and staff of cold. With higher enchantment level I could switch but as of now AC 13, EV 17 is much better than AC 20, EV -15.

I have 60 characters, none ever make it to the vaults... and this is my FIRST randart (besides a junk one from Trog)

Spears are very, very weak and shouldn't be used unless they have great stats and you haven't found a better polearm yet. But troll claws are very, very strong - and why you would use anything else (especially a spear) is puzzling.

Spears are very, very weak and shouldn't be used unless they have great stats and you haven't found a better polearm yet. But troll claws are very, very strong - and why you would use anything else (especially a spear) is puzzling.
