Max skill is 13, corresponds to old skill 26. Visually halve old skill levels.
Forget aptitude, welcome Racial Learning Difficulty, in integer form from 2 to 9 inclusively:
  Code:
v-<-<-<-<-<-<- add any constant you wish to all aptitudes
difficulty 2 = +4.9 aptitude (facile)
difficulty 3 = +2.5 aptitude (very easy)
difficulty 4 = +0.9 aptitude (easy)
difficulty 5 = -0.4 aptitude (okay)
difficulty 6 = -1.5 aptitude (a bit tough)
difficulty 7 = -2.4 aptitude (challenging; granularity becomes finer with 7+ difficulties compared to aptitudes)
difficulty 8 = -3.1 aptitude (very challenging)
difficulty 9 = -3.8 aptitude (laborious)

You can axe difficulties 5, 7, 8 if you want, I don't really. Note only one current apt is -5 (troll spellcasting) and there are very few -4 apts: trolls with stealth and launchers, ogres with short blades, and a handful of magic aptitudes.

Relative Skill Cost is equal to ( Racial Learning Difficulty * next pursued skill level * X ) where X is:
6 without a manual, if not sacrificed skill (default)
3 with a manual, if not sacrificed skill
8 without a manual, if sacrificed skill
4 with a manual, if sacrificed skill
(Piety for sacrificing skill to Ru buffed from 35 to 50.)
Thus the lowest possible relative cost is 2*1*3=6 (not 0.21 like right now) and the highest is 9*13*8=936.
Say goodbye to lies about skill costs rising exponentially.
When you gain a level, you are noted in the message log about the new relative skill cost.

i think people say skill costs "rise exponentially" because they think "exponential" is a synonym for "polynomial of degree greater than 1"

I feel like anybody who uses "exponentially" incorrectly isn't going to have a good handle on "polynomial" either, tbh.

they likely won't have trouble grasping linearly increasing marginal cost though - it's basically just a straight line

Honestly I've taken a lot of math courses, I know polynomial is (for example) x^2 and exponential is 2^n, and that exponential is way faster growth, and I still make tons of mistakes thinking/talking about them. I'm not going to try right now, because I'm on a lot of pain medication at the moment.
