A word about Chokos

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

A word about Chokos

Chokos. You don't really like them. They clutter up your inventory, your stash is rolling with them. And they don't even really give you any nutrition. Jut nom nom nom and then on your way, a little more full, and a lot more bored.

I propose adding the # of chokos ascended with to your brags. Like, YAVP 15 rune MfCr 22 Chokos!

At least then they have some value.

Re: A word about Chokos

Don't chokos have higher nutrition/weight than almost anything else? When I'm playing a low strength berzerker, I may eat other fruit as soon as I find it, but I keep some chokos on hand in case I'm just short the hunger needed to berzerk in a pinch.

Heh ... the choko # brag thing reminds me of those who would hoard gems in Nethack to boost their score ...

Re: A word about Chokos

I once tried to cut down the number of food items. As you can see from the current state of the game, I failed. People wouldn't even let go of the pizza, let alone other fruits. Regarding fruits, I made my peace: we now have Fedhas. But I'd still like to get rid of pizzas. (This is my personal opinion, most of the devteam disagree or don't care; don't start to push in either direction, for nothing will happen in the end anyway. It's just not important enough.)
The other route is creating more functional food: right now, we have royal jellies and ambrosia. There could be more, and there is a wiki page for that.

I would support the removal of pizza, as it is flavour-wrecking (ironically!).

Re: A word about Chokos

We should have a pizza timer that starts when you enter a level with pizza! (*You smell a fresh baked pizza on this level.*)
As time progresses, the pizza begins cooling and loses nutrition gradually until it is a "lifeless, cold pizza". The initial nutrition would start out as a double ration and then degrade to a choko.

That is actually a good point: the other wrong thing about pizza is that it's not permafood IRL.

Actually, the pizza should slowly move towards you once you enter a level - when it gets you, you must tip (a gold or 5) to receive it. If it doesn't get to your location in 30 turns or less, though, it's free.

Royal jellies are definitely functional. Ambrosia is... arguable. The times I need MP and the times I'm willing to spend a couple turns eating and curing confusion are not strongly correlated.

There could be a vault that is an orc-run Dominos. You catch and kill their deliveryorcs, which cuts into their already slim profit margin. Eventually the business goes under, you wipe out the kitchen staff, and you then stock up on pizzas like you can honeycombs in the Hive.

Speaking of pizza, how come "a slice of pizza" in tiles looks like "a pizza with a slice missing"? :P

Alternatively, you can take over the franchise yourself, make lots of gold selling pizzas, buy good stuff, and get the Orb!

This could be a great idea! If, as I hear, the hive is getting the chop, maybe some more food themed vaults could be introduced. A bunch of orcs making pizzas could be one!

I don't think the results would be too exciting, given the range of ingredients in the Dungeon. Maybe you could use Fulsome Distillation on a cheese and make a Quattro Formaggi or something - but no tomato, no olives, no anchovies... I think Pizza Margherita with chunks might get boring quickly.

I also think gnolls would make better pizza than orcs. Just a hunch.

You can never really trust those kind of places, though. They're always trying to sneak sludge elf into their product because it's cheaper in bulk. But you can totally taste the difference. Sludge elf has a gamey tang to it that they just can't drown out no matter how much spice they add.

Getting back on topic, would anything be wrong with being able to combine various fruit into a more nutritious (the variety of fruit juices compliment each other) and less inventory-consuming fruit salad that consumes like a meat/bread ration, but can rot like chunks?

XuaXua: this is like the idea of combining wand charges into a single wand. And I never liked that. If we think that some item (e.g. a fruit) is superflous, we should remove it, not devise hacks around the interface/inventory.

Re: A word about Chokos

Would it be possible to stack fruits of identical nutrition into a single line? A small part of me likes the variety of lemon, orange, snozzcumber . . . but having each type take up another item slot is kind of annoying. (I tend to eat these things upon contact, simply because they take up space, unless I have a good reason for hoarding permafood).
Human kind cannot bear very much reality.

I'd like it if you could make potions by mixing food ! With effects like real potions but a bit weaker.
Also, crawl needs a Baker class. Fights with a baguette, shields with pizza bread. In any case more use for fruits would be good, even if Fedhas is already a great reason to like fruits :3
