what crawl version do you play?
i personally play the stable version but thinking to switch to 0.7 or even try what 0.5 was like.

I play 0.8 though I used to play trunk before the 0.8 release.
There just aren't enough significant changes between 0.8 and trunk and after dying to a bug in Zot:5 playing trunk I'd rather just stick with the stable version for now.

that's happened to me too, but i stick to trunk because bugs have to be found and reported.

When i found a bug (royal jelly being teleported into its own vault) it took only a few days for the devs to find it, fix it and provide me with an altered savegame so i could continue playing.
Trunk it is, if there is a bug (and there are very very few) it has to be fixed and I am happy to report it.

I would play trunk, but the Mac version is currently about 2 months behind the latest release, so I think I'm unlikely to either be able to contribute anything useful to finding bugs, or learn very much about changes in the new version, so I've been playing webtiles 0.8 instead.

When I had OSX, I was building trunk daily-ish for myself - if you have a build environment set up (XCode not necessary I suspect, just GCC and friends) the Tiles build isn't too hard to get going. I realise this isn't for everyone, but it's easier than a lot of people think!
I would write a tutorial, but I don't have a running Mac at the moment
