What's your favorite Cruciferous Vegetable?

I know this is a divisive topic, but try to keep it civil.

Re: What's your favorite Cruciferous Vegetable?

my best friend in middle school worked at his mom's pizza restaurant. now, this may surprise you, but most of the "wasabi" you get in the americas and europe is actually just horseradish sauce with food colouring in it, because hey, these americans have never tasted real wasabi in their life, so who's gonna know? anyway, my friend borrowed a bag of "wasabi" powder, which was either finely powdered wasabi or finely powdered horseradish, and somehow convinced one of his friends to snort some of the powder like cocaine. apparently, if a 13-year-old kid inhales powdered horseradish, it can actually make them pass out. anyway, my favourite of these is cabbage

Re: What's your favorite Cruciferous Vegetable?

I refuse to partake in this scam of an election considering the obviously superior "Romanesco broccoli" has been lumped in with "other", despite its glorious fractal design and clear position as a leader of the popular vote.

On an aside, I once worked at a Thai/Japanese restaurant and the Japanese guys who did the sushi were making a big ass bowl of real wasabi and told me to smell it. So I leaned over the bowl, and took a big fresh breath in through my nostrils, and was immediately kicked in the face by a white horse and fell over and almost peed myself. The Japanese guys did too, they were laughing so hard. After that they made me a bunch of sushi and told me I was an honorary Japanese. True story.

I also voted Cabbage because I really like coleslaw.

Cabbage.

btw I really, really needed to Google 'rapeseed'! The first time ever I heard the word and it didn't sound very inviting.

Brussel sprouts are like tiny cabbages. Sooo good mixed with oil and salt and baked at high heat. Top tier contender for sure.

if you haven't roasted Brussels sprouts until the outside is crispy and charred and the inside is creamy and just melts in your gosh damn mouth then, my friend, you cannot say you have truly lived a day on God's green earth

True, but it's sufficiently delicious that I felt its inclusion was warranted to balance out the vegetable agenda.

Voted with the assumption that "cabbage" includes all colors, because red cabbage is clearly the king of cruciferous vegetables. Horseradish and collard greens each deserve dukedoms, though, and I'd at least set aside a fief for mustard greens.

Kale's the best, cook it and mix with mashed potatoes, then serve with smoked sausage and gravy, its pretty much the national dish, where i'm from!

I feel like kale isn't exactly the starring element of this dish....

Doesnt count if the thing you gonna enjoy the least is the ice cream. Thats like pouring beer into a roasted chicken and saying you just made hot beer good.

<Braised greens> and <cooked root vegetables> is one of my favorite go-to side dishes when I don't want to do anything fancy. Pretty much any mix-and-match of kale/cabbage/collard/other tough greens with potatoes/sweet potatoes/rutabaga/beets/carrots/other tubers is solid. Rather than mashing, I'll usually cook the roots in home fry cuts in a wok until they're about 5 minutes from being done and then braise the greens on top of them (because I'm lazy). Add salt and crushed red peppers with the greens, and then top it with ground horseradish root for some extra flavor!
