How do you name your characters?

Since I have, like, a different folder for each version of DCSS, my highscore list is rather fragmented. Oh, and I play on two different computers.

I name most of my Mummies Eli, my Ogres Waldo, and my DEs random obscenities. I've also named a run of my characters after my famed IVAN runs with: Boner, Bonerboner, Bonerbonerboner, and the fabled Bonerbonerbonerboner.

I also don't know how to pick the name. It has never offered me the option to pick another on Tiles.

my names... I hate naming things, mostly because I'm bad at it.
Therefore, most names are:
random words/phrases/stuff (something, derp, idunnolol)
. (no, really)
keyboard mashing
stuff like "thischaracterwilldiesoon", "pleasedon'tkillmeRNG", or "RNGslave"
elfy, dwarfy, sssnake, lolcat, trolololololol
fighter, blaster (because why not use a descriptive name?)
or some variation on "iambadatnaming"

Typically I name my characters whatever my partner just said (e.g. "where is the salt" the HOFi) or a recent event (e.g. "jalapeno in my eyeballs" the DEFE) or lyrics from whatever I was just listening to (current character: "charlie I'm pregnant" the DECj). I usually give each name about ten runs before I switch it up. Makes Crawl games into interesting explorations of stuff that went down over the last month or so.

I once ran a series of MuCKs with the name "Testicular Fortitude".
I have an offline TrSk win posted on the forums where the troll is named "Duncan". I don't really know what I was thinking when I named him. Also my posted HuHu win is called "Tehunterr" where I accidentally started the game with an extra "r" and then won.

Lately most of my characters start with "Teh" and end in some sort of joke word coming from the combo's letters.

Every character is named "Lorenzo". No exceptions.

I name by species. Some are boring literary references, and some are silly things like "Burger" for minotaurs and "Fancypants" for high elves.

If I do pick a name under the Sincerest Flattery category, I try to go for characters who are about the right power level with a preference for the somewhat more obscure, e.g. "Eifer".

Oft times I'll go for a semi-moody, semi-unimaginative name influenced by species.

The remainder, I think up of a name that sounds good and go with that.

I usually name them after cool anime characters. Like HuFi= Guts (from Berserk) Vampire Summoner= Alucard (from Hellsing) or DemonspawnWhatever= Zodd or Wlyad (both from Berserk)
