Demigod ability!

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Demigod ability!

I don't think that demigods need to be buffed, but one curious idea came into my mind.
What if Dg could invoke some god powers at the cost of god wrath?
Due to their divine nature Demigods can sorta steal other god powers for a while (Invoke cleansing flame or scrying), but then "How did u dare to proclaim yourself a god!" and you get say 5 penance points for a given god.
I don't know whether a player should choose ability or just invoke semi-random one (like invoke Destruction for random greater destruction or upheval or cleansing flame; invoke summoning for greater demon or angel or brother in arm). Also this should be able from say lvl13 as a minor ability and from lvl26 as a greater one.

No, demigods should not be able to invoke any god powers. That's the whole point of the species.

Re: Demigod ability!

honestly they should just be called something other than demigods and explain the "no god" conduct by simply being incapable of using the button "p" due to a strong fear for that letter (pi-phobia?)

Re: Demigod ability!

I think demigod should have access to all the items in the game, including race-specific ones.
That would make demigod as 'race with unique advantages and drawbacks' instead of 'suck at everything, no god, boring and the only reason you're playing this is to test your skill'.

Lv 13 : demigod gain access to large rock and giant club/giant spiked clubs.
Lv 26 : demigod can wield two-handed weapon, except clubs, with shield.

At what level should they be able to wear bardings?

Re: Demigod ability!

Demigods should have worshippers and by praying on a temple they choose to be become the son of a existing god, then his followers will earn the chosen god's abilities as they fight for you. Good luck implementing that.

They just mature into Deminagatawr that lets him to have 10 speed and wear both bardings.

...and two pairs of boots.

To be fair that's not too different from wearing 8 rings.

Re: Demigod ability!

You're joking, but it is too different from wearing 8 rings. This is what people don't get when they suggest races that can wear two hats, wield two weapons, wear two amulets, wear two pairs of gloves, or whatever: rings are the only equipment type in the game that was designed from the beginning to account for more than one being worn at once. That's why increasing the number of ring slots is relatively easy to code and has relatively little balance impact; every possible interaction between rings is already accounted for because you can already combine any two rings. If you increase the number of amulet/weapon/boot slots, on the other hand, then you need to figure out what should happen with every combination of two amulets/weapons/boot egos, because combining them was previously impossible.

Demigods are quite strong, imo. They get more INT than deep elves (if you want) and buckets of HP. Being a few levels behind on spell schools does not make this advantage insignificant, and once those skills are maxed out you are potentially better at magic than a deep elf (though with slightly less MP). You also get sustain abilities because, sure, whatever. Of course, you don't get a god, but compared to a deep elf of all things you get comparable spell power (slightly lower, until later) and (11/8) 1.375x the hp (and a better fighting aptitude, even, so often more than that). Your native STR means that you can actually wear some armor at some point. Also, your skills are even around the board like a human, so you can (and should) adapt to whatever the game decides to give you. Again, no god makes for a less predictable game in some ways, leaving you at the mercy of the RNG for spells/gear and needing to use consumables when in a bad spot, but Demigods are plenty strong despite this.

But is this really an issue? The only egos that can't currently be found more than once on a character are running, archery, faith, and reflection if you consider shields as well. Running has parallel in ponderous, which stacks. That only leaves archery and faith to figure out, unless I'm missing some randart properties. As for non-egos, there's the question of extra armor slots adding to your base AC, and ER for bardings.

Of course, double weapons / double body armors present their own set of complications.

FR: Doubleman race that can wear twice as much of everything but randomly picks one of two generated levels every time it takes some stairs.

XL13 sounds ok.
But not 26. Wielding two-handed in one hand is bad idea. Remember formicid?
I am anime.
