These are things that I have said:

getting a sub-25k turncount requires things like "memorize/look up every pan rune vault to ctele into unexplored tiles"

The only thing missing is a reminder to play 0.16 if you want to compete against old top scores, as the removal of cTele adds several thousand turns to the game. It's no big deal if you prefer Trunk, as I bet lots of people will be interested to see what top scores look like with that change, but sub-30k times are going to require some very lucky RNG.

Of course I was super wrong, wow. They got good RNG, sure, but it was mostly damn good play. Congrats to tlatlagkaus and 4thArra, who have basically schooled the hell out of me, jeez.

cTele removal mainly affects characters that start use Trog. The reason is that you do actually backtrack more as a Berserker: You have to go back to Temple to swap gods, and you have to backtrack for Tomb (Trog will get you if you try to do it under his wrath). I had thought that Chei characters would be a bit too slow in the early game to get a sub-25k, and I hadn't seen anyone do DD of Makhleb all the way until Sapher's run. Extended isn't that big of a turn sink without cTele - good luck on random teleports will get you to and from the runes just as fast as cTele. The fastest Be is still 21.8k. I think the fastest 15 runer that can reasonably be done if everything goes right is around 17.5 - 18k - 4tharra did a zig and Orc which always adds turns and Orc often does not give much of value aside from piety. A lot of the difference between a ~22k and a ~19k comes down to map gen luck and how long the game decides to make you wait for Pan and Abyss runes.
