Remove species is always stupid, it is simply removed because only the perfectionism of devs. It's a stupid reason.
There is nothing advantage to have fewer species.
The only reason DCSS do not have a Dj is a perfectionism, does not have anything else.

perfectionism of devs is stupid remove and more terrible game balance and poor gameplay. otherwise it does nothing.
All stupid remove has been done for perfectionism.
DCSS is very boring for perfectionism. 0.17 is remove spam for perfectionism.
The only policy that was left of the DCSS is a perfectionism, it will always take precedence.

devs will need to stop the perfectionism.

Apparently it was an experimental species in 2014 that tried to make use of some ideas from LO and Dj. Doesn't seem to have lasted long.

You can find 0.14-a the latest windows build made on CDO for the version before the removal (which was in 0.14-a0-2810-g474977d) here:

I tested the installer in Wine and Tiles works fine. As for playing online, well you can certainly set up a WebTiles server without too much effort. Then you can run any crazy patch you want! Including re-enabling Djinn, after you've fixed whatever bugs have crept into that code, of course.

If you're familiar with software development, you'll know that not having a lot of extra code to maintain for features you don't want is always a significant advantage. If we kept every feature in the game no matter what, we'd have a ton more active code to worry about keeping not-broken as well as a ton more to think about design-wise each change we make.
