all i do is put 3% hydrogen peroxide in, wait 10 minutes, and then flush with water. warm water isn't appreciably better than cold water. if you have a better way to do it let me know

If your eardrum doesn't contain a tube or have a hole in it, these self-care measures may help you remove excess earwax that's blocking your ear canal:

• Soften the wax. Use an eyedropper to apply a few drops of baby oil, mineral oil, glycerin or hydrogen peroxide in your ear canal.

Earwax removal kits available in stores also can be effective at removing wax buildup. Ask your doctor for advice on how to properly select and use alternative earwax-removal methods.

Don't try to dig it out

Never attempt to dig out excessive or hardened earwax with available items, such as a paper clip, a cotton swab or a hairpin. You may push the wax farther into your ear and cause serious damage to the lining of your ear canal or eardrum.

Wow, I actually just had to deal with this. I had some wax in my ear, and I thought I could grab it with a q-tip. I've used them successfully plenty of times in the past.

Not this time- I completely stopped up my ear. I had to go to an urgent care clinic before work to clear it out. I was completely deaf in one ear, and I couldn't equalize pressure at all.

They blasted the inside of my ear with a bug plunger full of warm water over and over until huge chunks of wax came out. I tried peroxide, ear cleaning kits, everything. It was miserable.

yeah i'm probably going to get the doctor to look at it if i don't have the ear cleared by tomorrow. it's always worked without any difficulty in the past, but maybe i waited too long between cleanings this time. also, not really an elf problem, our ears are pretty much the same on the inside. it is annoying that i can't trust anyone except minmay to cut my hair, though.
