PSA: Death Cobs/Hungry ghosts have been buffed

In an exceedingly desperate measure to justify the existence of tactical hunger the devs in their wisdom have decided to severly buff Hungry Ghosts/Death Cobs. They now induce hunger any time they hit, even if they dont do damage!

So one might actually get below 30 rations in zot again!!! And hungry ghosts are now actually a threat for early Gozaq worshippers... Please just remove them, if you have to grasp at straws to make them somewhat interesting.

Just think of hungry ghosts as similar to monsters wielding disto weapons, if you are low on food. Nothing special about them. I don't see it as an issue, but it does seem a rather desperate attempt to make food relevant.

(This is rather like Oathwraiths in Sil. The dev there justified the retention of food by pointing to oathwraiths. Food doesn't really do anything in Sil, imo, but that is offtopic. Though I actually died once to oathwraith when I was really new.)

By the way, I recall some vault or the other where there are a ton of death cobs. This might make it interesting.

If you zap them with random effects. I also recommend holding down tab.

Give them a starving irrestible gaze, rather than a starving melee attack. Not sure why this has to be tied with EV.

Or you could just remove them.

hungry ghosts should be able to eat your leg. then you have no leg for the rest of the game and suffer a movement speed penalty and a stealth penalty (because hopping around on one leg is noisy) also you only get half ac from boots

also you only get half ac from boots

But is it really less AC if your leg that would've been protected by the 2nd boot is now gone, and therefore can't take damage?

Actually I starved recently even without hungry ghost intervention. Dived for Gozaq to get that sweet D:6/7 shop, got an ossuary, which involved long waiting times+ was low on permafood due to diving.
