Re: New God: Nerd Trog

Serious discussion only!

Nerd trog hates magic, not because it goes against the brawny ways of fighting, but because it doesn't follow the logical rules of reality. Nerd trog is quick to point out that magic blatantly breaks the law of preservation of mass & energy. Nerd trog is fine with berserking, but it's called nerd rage when following him.

When nerd rage ends you are exhausted, not slowed, but it does fog up your glasses(Obviously you get glasses when you follow nerd trog). Fogged glasses cause you to move more slowly, read slower, and make you less accurate.
Nerd Trog's glasses make it so you can see your hit chance and exact damage done to enemies, and also occasionally prevent intelligent monsters from hitting you (You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses would you?)

Ok, someone else needs to come up with the rest of it. I think I made a good start though.

Re: New God: Nerd Trog

I still think Gort is better than Gozag; though IDK if many people would actually use it. [I don't remember who made the proposal; it was literally the opposite of trog; which probably didn't fill any niche that vehu doesn't already, but was a cute thought.]

Passives: Book Gifts.

Cost of Worship: You can't use melee weapons [penance] (ranged and spells both allowed)

Ley Line Tap: Max MP +100% (current MP scaled to match), Brilliance. You cannot take any action other than moving and casting spells.

Gort's Foot: MP Regen, AC++

Sister's in Legs: Summon friendly spellcasters (type depends on piety) ranging from Orc Sorcerer to Draconian Scorcher to Antique Lich.
I'm beginning to feel like a Cat God! Felid streaks: {FeVM^Sif Muna, FeWn^Dithmenos, FeAr^Pakellas}, {FeEE^Ashenzari, FeEn^Gozag, FeNe^Sif Muna, FeAE^Vehumet...(ongoing)}

Berder's Gort wrote:Gort:
Bans melee!
* ability: Epiphany - the inverse of berserk. Grants haste + brilliance + 50% greater MP for a while, then causes exhaustion, slow and sometimes paralysis afterwards. Prevents all actions except spellcasting and walking.
** ability: Gort's foot - provides 1 mp/turn mp regeneration and +10 AC for a number of turns depending on piety
**** ability: Coven - summons a spellcaster of type depending on piety such as a deep elf conjurer on up to a deep elf demonologist. The summon is given the Epiphany status.
Gort grants gifts of magical staves, sometimes randart staves.

Sandman25's Anti-Trog wrote:Anti-Trog gives piety for killing monsters, double for those who cannot cast spells and quadruple for those with antimagic effects (Lorocyproca etc). Anti-Trog excommunicates for using antimagic weapon.

Abilities:
Piety level -:
Protection from Silence, passive - you have 20%-80% chance (depending on piety) to cast while under silence effect.
Melee penalty, passive - every attack with melee weapon decreases your current HP and MP by 1.
Protection From Abjuration, passive - Abjurations cast against your servants are 20% less effective.
Destroy antimagic weapon, active - Praying over antimagic weapon destroys the weapon and gives piety.

Piety level *:
Meditate, active, no piety, exhaustion - your spells have 50% chance to cost 0 MP, you spend 0.66 turn to cast a spell. If you kill a monster while meditating, you get 1-2 MP and also a Piety/10% chance of adding 4-13 more turns to your meditation duration. (The bonuses do not apply if you killed the monster with melee).
After end of meditation, you are exhausted. As long as you are exhausted, you don't regenerate MP and any non-magic attack (melee/launcher/wand/rod etc.) decreases your current HP by 10%.

Piety level **:
Anti-Trog's Hand, active, 2-3 piety - your get extra 1-2 MP per turn, you get +10 AC, all hostile monsters in LoS get HD decreased by 3 for magical effects which check HD.

Piety level ****:
Mages in Arms, active, 5-6 piety - summons a powerful meditating ally (0.66 turn per cast like with player), the species of which depends on piety. At low piety levels (****), you get Ogre Magi, Orc Sorcerer or Deep Elf Conjurer, while at high levels (***** or ******) you get Fire Giant, Frost Giant, Titan. They are always friendly. Their meditation can expire, although this usually occurs only shortly before they time out. It has a high rate of failure, but this falls as piety rises. If it fails, nothing happens: you don't lose piety.

Anti-Trog gifts:
Piety 81+:
scrolls of immolation, scrolls of fog, scrolls of fear, potion of brilliance, potion of magic

Piety 130+:
books, rings of fire/ice/wizardry, staffs of fire/cold/air/earth/wizardry, -2 robe of archmagi.

Punishments:
Hostile groups of Silence Specters, Flayed Ghosts, Fiends, Hellion/Hell Sentinel (at least 4 monsters, at least 1 from each group).
streaks: 5 fifteen rune octopodes. 15 diverse chars. 13 random chars. 24 NaWn^gozag.

Re: New God: Nerd Trog

That's not nerd trog! That's not even remotely nerd related!

Both of those anti-trogs are interesting, and I would love to see an easy-mode magic god(Also, an easy mode magic race). But this is the place to discuss nerd trog!

Nerd trog obviously should gift a few skill manuals.
Maybe he would also occasionally gift scrolls (The scroll disappears when you use it, satisfying the conservation of mass & energy)

Re: New God: Nerd Trog

Nerd rage:
haste
+10 int as you recall every little factoid in your entire life
-cast since magic is illogical
-5 dex (nerds are clumsy when raging)
+resist everything as if you quaffed a potion of resistance, because nerds are resistant to all influences when raging
All items get specific technical names, e.g., "double sword" becomes "OakshottType XVa", "chain mail" becomes "chain armor" or just "maille".
Special ability granted: "Quibble about details" - causes damage to opponent depending on how inconsistently designed they are: for example, OOD monsters take extra damage. Instantly kills stupid monsters like death cobs and curse toes.
Very noisy (you randomly shout "facts" at your opponent, e.g. "All characters need 20 EV before Lair!!!" and "You must always train Fighting!!!!")
Nerd rage is extended whenever you see more illogical or inconsistent things, like other monsters.

If killed while raging, you will always leave a ghost that is in a permanent state of nerd-rage; a very dangerous opponent. It will also automatically make a post to the tavern about how unfair and bullshit your death was.

+10 int and -cast?
Well, nerd trog already prevents casting, but he should also make it so int is simply added to your str for any str checking effects. Because you use your superior intellect to overpower your foes... and wear your armor better... or something.

No, no, Nerd Trog loves Nethack for all the literary and nerdy references. On the orb run, he introduces Nethack mechanics like the "mysterious force" and covetous monsters making "cheap plastic imitations" of the Orb of Zot. He also introduces the 5 elemental planes to provide greater opportunity for blood and glory. He also requires tedious pudding farms before granting any god gifts. (Conservation of mass again. Where do you think the mass for the weapons come from?)
