Just about every living humanoid species that the player encounters many many times exists as a playable species too - orcs, deep elves, nagas, merfolk, and so on. With so many goblins on early dungeon floors, players should expect there to be such a playable race, but there isn't. This would be solved if we just took all goblins and renamed them to halflings. It fits nicely, you don't have to change anything about goblins. They tend to use slings, which is the best halfling skill. The only change will be with Elyvilon and same-species pacification, which might only matter if you want to pacify Ijyb as a halfling. No-one will cry, "bring back the goblins!"

then rename hobgoblins to hobhobbits

Physically similar to halflings, associates with orcs and ogres, lives in nasty mines and caverns... they're not halflings, they're "deep hobbits", aka gollums.

I think this one was already used in a book, so it's going to be too much copyright trouble. We should go with "Dildo Bangings" imho, it's free.

Why not rename player halflings to goblins? That way Robin and Ijyb don't need to change.
