First Online Games

Geez, other people's ghosts. I went into Bailey, fought two ghosts, think "holy cow, it's ghosty in here, lucky I lived," and what should appear but a third ghost. I ran away from that one, thinking it better than pressing my luck. It is kinda cool though, not knowing what to expect, but I did not anticipate seeing so many. I feel like it's much rarer that I encounter my own ghosts offline.

You can use xv to check ghosts spells and stats (AC/EV/MR).

Re: First Online Games

I think people tend to run from ghosts, leaving them active. The ghosts are forgotten and left undestroyed. Characters die, ghosts become more frequent/varied/dangerous, and people have even more incentive to just run from them, leaving more ghosts active, etc, etc... making quite a ghost-filled dungeon.

Ghosts are removed from the graveyard when they are placed. The only way for a ghost to appear in more than one game is for a player to die on the same level as the ghost.

So... if you make a Spriggan, dive to floor 15, and ^qyes, you permanently extinguish all the ghosts that were generated in your game on D:1-15?

You could also just, y'know, delete your morgues folder.

Some loose consortium of individuals who feel prepared for the cause, even if they have no practical experience.

Yes. Probably faster to use formicids.

We're talking about online, with a shared morgue on a server somewhere.

Re: First Online Games

I'd never delete the folder even if I could, because ghosts are

  • actually dangerous, and therefore interesting
  • generally fair - although there's a few edge cases like early draconian ghosts that were just barely level 7 and have draining breath, or really high level ghosts that have some horrible spell like glaciate and spam it
  • Good exp, especially early, and thus provide a reward for actually engaging them

Doesn't this mean that most games should have approximately 1 ghost encounter, rather than many? Well, so far on webtiles, I think I've met way more than 1 ghost per game, on average.

Are GrumpD and I just unlucky that way?

We should run a ghostbuster challenge. You should kill as much ghosts in a single game as you can.
Spoiler: show
this will lead to zig scumming :(

My favourite way of dispatching ghosts (especially in the early game) is playing an AK.
