New Skill: Survival

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

New Skill: Survival

The Survival skill decreases the rate at which you hunger and increases the chance of a monster leaving a corpse when killed. At high survival skill you have a chance of being able to eat poisonous corpses. It also increases your chance of finding traps and decreases the chance of a door creaking when you open it. This will give players an interesting strategic option in skill training instead of always getting more killing skills.

Re: New Skill: Survival

Diplomacy: gives a (skill)% chance of a newly encountered monster being neutral.

Persuasion: gives a (skill)% chance of a neutral monster turning friendly. Once per monster.

Showboating: Hitting a monster for more than 50% damage in a single hit gives a (skill)% chance of each monster in vision to be stunned for a turn by your awesomeness.

Zombie Mastery: Gives a small chance of any killed monster to be instantly raised as a zombie.

Luck: causes really bad or really good RNG results to be rerolled. e.g. skill 1 causes rerolls of 1 on a 1d100. Skill 27 causes rerolls of 27 or less assuming they would fail.

Re: New Skill: Survival

If you name your character Bear Grylls, when at Near Starving, a unique ally named "Helicopter Crew" drops 1-15 bread/meat rations on an adjacent square. This effect can only occur once per branch, and branches have been renamed to "episodes". Multiple episodes together make up one season, and for variety, the game will drop you into episodes of wildly varying difficulty, where your survival skill dictates the monsters you fight. Oh yeah, and monsters have been renamed to "survival challenges".

Episode list:

Season 1:

Medieval Man vs Wild (D)
Underground Man vs Wild (Orc)
Spelunker Man vs Wild (Depths)
Jungle Man vs Wild (Lair)
Volcanic Man vs Wild (Gehenna)
Season Finale: Chaotic Man vs Wild (Abyss:5)

After beating the first season, you must survive in Pan for 10000 turns. This is called a "hiatus" and will occur after every season. After every episode besides Zot has been completed, you get sent to the final season, called "Purple Man vs Wild" (Zot [tiles people, you get the joke]), which has 6 parts:

Purple Man vs Wild, parts 1-5

Sprinter Man vs Wild (Orbrun)
Lord of Lignification, we bow down to you.

...why aren't you bowing? Stop reading this and bow.

Re: New Skill: Survival

So, you can potentially be playing Purple Man vs Wild, Part 5, and be fighting "a fiery orb shaped survival challenge", or "a murderous clown shaped survival challenge", or even "a guardian of the orb of survival shaped survival challenge"
Lord of Lignification, we bow down to you.

...why aren't you bowing? Stop reading this and bow.

Re: New Skill: Survival

I feel like somewhere around 10 survival skill should be enough for you to rip extra robes into bandages which apply a strong regen effect (say 2hp/10 aut for 200 auts or so, 40 total healing). Stacks with spell regen, of course, because dying isn't fun.

Active ability: drink piss - increase satiation, +5 charisma (new stat influencing pickled_heretic's excellent skill additions). Unsure if should affect body temp, which we need to put in as well.

Re: New Skill: Survival

superhero skills:

super speed: like the flash but not too fast because that would be OP

super strength: like the hulk, so getting angry also makes you stronger. or maybe like antman so you have to wear a special suit.

telepathy: lets you know what monsters are thinking. not really useful but might still be cool.

eye lasers: something I have always wanted in crawl. at low levels it's just a single target spell, later it's a beam. causes eye strain which works like blurry vision but goes away after a while if you don't use it.

super investigative skill: I guess this is like batman's power, I don't know how it would be useful but batman is cool anyway so whatever

insanity: a special skill that, at high enough levels, makes all other gods but xom perform like xom and xom to perform like a normal god with useful god abilities that won't screw you over randomly.

ninjutsu: if both hands are free (no shield, weapon etc.) you get a significant boost to spell success. just like ninjas in naruto.

Re: New Skill: Survival

which brings me to my next skill list.

NARUTO!

also jutsu means skill in japanese, just in case you didn't know. it would be dumb to say "jutsu skill" because that would literally just mean "skill skill" which would be dumb.

kage bunshin no jutsu: creates multiple clones of yourself that die in 1 hit but deal full damage in attack. has a small chance of confusing you because you don't know which one is the real one. unless your int is really high (not like naruto)

rasengan: one of the few jutsu that does not require hand signals (e.g. training ninjutsu) it converts mana (chakra) into a highly damaging melee attack that can knock your opponents back.

chidori: requires training in lightning magic as well which is a new category. anyway it's a really fast lightning damage melee strike that does high damage. but you can only do it 2-3 times before a rest. unless you are a really strong ninja.
