I like Robin

A flavorful unique that presents a challenge when it appears, but not as overtly dangerous as Sigmund or Grinder. How difficult it is has been a good barometer for me in how I'm developing as a player. It used to be, "OMG run away!" and now it's, "Divide, conquer, collect XP"

Right, but not in a sexual way. Obviously.
If you are offended by something I've posted, just PM me. It probably wasn't intentional.

Re: I like Robin

Robin wins 14% of battles which is one of the highest killratios in the game. She's dangerous enough.

Weird enemies are good, anyway. Weird is good. It shakes things up, makes you think differently and use different tactics. In Robin's case you have to be careful about not getting trapped in a corridor by thrown kobolds. Without gimmicks, what would be left of crawl - just monotonous tabbing. What do you find so interesting about that?

Re: I like Robin

killratio uses ikiller, which includes kills by the members of a monster's band, so that 14% does count kills by Robin's allies.

Re: I like Robin

Robin's gimmick is pretty dangerous though. It seems that when he lobs a battle-cried goblin at you that goblin immediately gets a swing.

An attack I dont get to react to that early in the game is rarely trivial. Like the OP I use him as a weatherguage, though admittedly i'm measuring myself against a swarm of 'quick' buffed hobs/gobs. Always found it a fairly nice introduction to managing LOS, along with OPriests its an early encounter that teaches positioning. (and is usually the very first time in a given run that i 'killhole')

I would imagine the majority of Robins kills are his band, they are the threat and thats kind of the point.

Re: I like Robin

The way I'd die to Robin was that I'd position myself in a corridor to fight one at a time, and then she'd throw a goblin behind me and I couldn't disengage if a bad roll happened. So it's fair to say that Robin was what really taught me luring. Now as soon as I see her I disengage and then peel the goblins off one by one, approaching from a different direction as many times as necessary. Robin alone is easy.

Introducing mechanics in less dangerous ways is a good thing- Sky beasts introducing invisibility is a great example, even though you may run into an orc wizard before you run into a sky beast.

Robin's pack is so large that it forces you to notice that it is a pack and think about how to deal with a pack. That's a good thing to learn. And having a reason to keep the leader out of sight is good.

It's much better than my idea of super-Ogre that works like Robin.

Re: I like Robin

Duvessa may act like he's a guy on an internet message board talking about a game, but you have to remember he's actually a she, and she's an early unique who gets a lot of kills, and hates competition. She also secretly has a soft spot for me.

However, I'm an early game unique whose usual contribution is to die, and make Duvessa so mad she kills everyone. I think that should count as an assist, but either way, I've got no real reputation to defend.

That's why I think Robin is great, and Duvessa is jealous. That also explains why she wants everything after D4 removed from the game.

I've been killed by the enraged Dowan icicle before. Also Dowan carries the power grudge longer than his sister. She'd be more of a challenge if she could re-enrage after the cool down period.
