3DCSS?

When looking at tiles, I noticed that sourceforge has 3D tiles, leading me to think that some kind of 3DCSS exists.
I mean, they did it with Nethack (Nethack Vulture, Nethack Eagle), so couldn't we pull off a 3D DCSS? It would make the game seem a bit more accessible to modern players, but I am in no way suggesting this for Webtiles. That would kill the servers.

IMHO 2d looks much nicer, by a wide margin. Unanimated sprites propped up like paper cutouts on a flat surface look like shit, and it's disorienting too. I sadly believe the makers of Vulture and Eagle wasted their time.

Edit: the water elemental thingy is pretty neat though, I also remember some other isometric tiles looking good.

in 3D, h and j would be remapped to still send you left and down respectively.
