My TeBe has just proved that Lair should be decreased to 4 levels.

  Code:
 q - the amulet of the Air (around neck) {Inacc +Fly rElec EV+5 RMsl}

15236 | Lair:5   | Gained mutation: You are robust (+10% HP). [potion of beneficial mutation]
15257 | Lair:5   | Found a frozen archway.
...

...
17184 | Lair:5   | Identified the amulet of Xom's Fair Game {Spirit rElec rPois MR+} (You found it on level 5 of the Lair of Beasts)

Not sure if I selected correct thread, sometimes AI looks too stupid.
I am a flying visible Tengu with EV 45 and RMsl and still a merfolk throws a net at me, catching full HP Illsuw who is between us instead. And then Illsuws struggles with the net about 8 times while I am killing it. She was still in the net when died.

This is why crawl's mechanic is considered bad by some players. It is NOT normal when Ice devil (HD 8) kills Naga Mage (HD 7) and Greater Naga (HD 15) without my help.

  Code:

A naga mage comes into view. It is wielding a club.

HD is not indication of strength. For example, a greater mummy has 15 hd, while a titan has 20, yet the greater mummy is stronger.

How is that quickblade good? It is only +4, which matters a lot for low damage weapons, and venom is a mediocre brand.

Sometimes the game just wants you to win.

MuFE:

  Code:
a ring of magical power
You found it on level 1 of the Dungeon.

a +5 ring of dexterity
You found it on level 1 of the Dungeon.

a (was +1) robe of fire resistance (remember, mummy)
You took it off an orc wizard on level 3 of the Dungeon.

a ring of wizardry
You found it on level 4 of the Dungeon.

the +3 helmet of Lugonu's Outrage {Int+2 Dex+4}
You found it on level 6 of the Dungeon.

the +6 trident of Mana {drain, Int+4}
You took it off an orc on level 6 of the Dungeon.

a +1 whip of electrocution
You took it off Pikel on level 7 of the Dungeon.

a +2 ring mail of fire resistance (still a mummy)
You found it on level 9 of the Dungeon.

I wonder how I'll die. Probably soon.

For some strange, perverse reason, the more I encounter them the more I actually love crazy, out of depth vaults in the main dungeon. I just died in the Abyss after running into one that was full of Elf Sorcerers on D:12 while looking for Orc. I just wish sometimes that they'd use runed doors.

It makes the game much more exciting and really tests your character's ability to survive. It also tests your ability to make good decisions! My HuGl would still be kicking if I'd remembered to use Trog's Hand.

I've been seeing more of these lately in .19 and am quite pleased.

You've decided your next great race goal is Dg, because why not. High HP, workable aptitudes, the ability to use most items you find in the dungeon, and you can skip the silly, unbalanced find-a-god game. What's not to like, eh? I dunno, I enjoy Dg for whatever reason.

A few games in, you get to D:10. For some reason D:10 likes to be weird as hell lately. You have 32 AC already. You've found two scrolls of acquirement, and one of them dropped Arga on you. You've even found a wand of heal wounds. You're several times more unkillable and more able to kill than you have any right to be at this point in the game. Great, right? But...remove curse, of all scrolls, does not exist. Two of acquirement and plenty otherwise, but no remove curse. And you have a ring of teleportation stuck to you. The game is therefore testing your ridiculous finds as much as it possibly can and gleefully pretending that this one scroll was removed in a recent patch.

It sounds and certainly felt like it should have been incredibly frustrating, but it was actually the most fun I've had in a decent while. I was almost disappointed when remove curse finally did show a few floors later. Every moment was tense. The fights were exciting and often not ones I opted to get myself into. Most of the time, the RNG deciding to omit common, rather necessary items from the game for an unnecessarily long time is one of my pet peeves, but this time, just this once...it was actually pretty cool. Unfortunately, now I just have an overpowered DgGl that I'll probably somehow splat in some extremely boring way. Whee!

I know that feeling. I am disappointed that devs haven't accepted Imp species which was playable on CBRO as far as I remember. You could reliably have "ring of teleportation" right on D:1 because the species has intrinsic teleportitis mutation.

It's an inscription I added (see section Inscriptions in http://crawl.akrasiac.org/docs/crawl_manual.txt) that means not to remove the ring. So when I (P)ut on a ring, it automatically replaces the other ring and doesn't suggest the =R one.

I didn't and I sure feel bad. Once again I didn't get out of trouble fast enough. Went down to Depths:1. A welcoming party of a couple of ice dragons, entropic weavers, ugly things, stone giant etc. I evoked a lamp of fire and quaffed !invis. But I should have teleported away. Instead I let myself be surrounded, went upstairs, took surprisingly lot of damage while climbing the stairs and ended up with 13 HP and 3 hostile monsters next to me. No blinking, heal wounds or even ?fear available. Quaffed curing and ambrosia and died. Was still invisible and none of the monster saw invisible.

Not too long ago I splatted a HOAE after entering Zot:1. I should learn to get away from mobs at branch entries in time...
