I learned passage of golubria for the first time today. I first used it to approach a Cyclops to stab it, but there were three hydras and a host of other things that came into view, so I had to approach differently.

Later on the same level, I found Mara asleep and wrecklessly teleported aside him. Down in one stab, and that nightmare is averted. It feels good, but all it takes is one misstep to splat playing like this.

On D:2, my MuCK is given a +8, +6 quick blade by Xom, and finds a book of Maledictions (sure blade) and a buckler.

Edit: and then your extremely successful mummy with great item drops will go from full health to dead in one bout of confusion.

Here's my latest game as DsAK (Demonspawn Abyssal Knight), from start to finish.

Welcome, Mitzi the Demonspawn Abyssal Knight.
The bosom of this dungeon contains the most powerful artefact, the Orb of Zot.
Lugonu says: Take this gate or call upon me to unleash you onto the world, my servant!
Press ? for a list of commands and other information.
You are suddenly pulled into a different region of the Abyss!
The scroll is a mimic!
The ravenous scroll mimic hits you!
Ouch! That really hurt!
* * * LOW HITPOINT WARNING * * *
The ravenous scroll mimic hits you!
Ouch! That really hurt!
You die...

0 | Abyss | Mitzi, the Demonspawn Abyssal Knight, began the quest for the Orb.
0 | Abyss | Reached XP level 1. HP: 16/16 MP: 1/1
2 | Abyss | Mangled by a ravenous scroll mimic

The game was two turns long.

I mean just, this is legendary.

I think my record in D:1 is ten turns. The game began with a Ring of Regeneration RIGHT next to me, followed by a Kobold with a dagger. I proceeded to fight it and it killed me in one hit. Draining Brand! Gotta love being "drained of all life". I stopped playing that night on account of Crawl clearly and bluntly telling me "this is not a good time to be playing Crawl and here let me give you a sign".

I think I had a literally unwinnable start. Entrance vault was two tiles, a dungeon exit and either stairs or a hatch, can't remember. Took the stairs and landed in the middle of a Xom altar vault, full of monsters. Might have been possible for a TrBe or something equally hardy, certainly not with whatever I was playing. Though I do wonder if choosing to worship Xom would have saved me.

After getting cast into the Abyss at L15 or so, I miraculously survived with one minor irritation: teleportitis. Now I've gone through nearly the entire game, about to tackle Zot, and found ZERO potions of cure mutation. Luckily, I had an amulet of stasis. Very tired of not being able to use my other amulet options, I thought, "Eh, might as well," and decided to drink some of the potions of mutation I'd been distilling.

All 35 of them.

I thought, "Ah, it can't be THAT bad..." Guess which mutation never got touched? Note to self: Deteriorating body is essentially Game Over for a Deep Dwarf... a ticking time bomb at the very best.

Playing a Naga, I take the stairs down to D2, walk for a bit, and notice (and wake) Sigmund. Realizing I can't possibly take him in melee (an XL2 Tm), or make it back upstairs (Naga, remember?) I think "Good thing I identified tele scrolls and still have one!" Read it, and a couple turns later:

Of course not, and here is the reason.

As long as you're not with Ashenzari, which I assume if the character's a deep dwarf, you can give up fun instead and swap to restab when outside of dangerous combat. You won't suffer much loss.

That would be assuming that I have actually FOUND a ring of sustain abilities... which I have not. :P

I have 7 potions of restore abilities and was hoping to tackle Extended + Zigs. Maybe I should have posted to "I think we learned an important lesson today" instead. Namely...

As bad as you think your current mutations are... they can get worse.

Hint: it's unusual to ask for food with a scroll of acquirement but you might get royal jellies for restoring your stats (if this should be necessary).

When a fairly early trove wants a demon trident, yet I still don't get one even after wading through hordes of Hell knights, clearing every damn dungeon level until Zot, and even burning a big chunk of perma-food to empty Blade.

To make it even more fun, lets burn all our EW scrolls on a demon blade and sit there wondering why that doesn't work...

By D:4 found so many scrolls and potions I couldn't carry any more. None of them identified yet.

Decided to id some scrolls first. Tried my stack of 5 ... it does nothing ... probably Remove Curse.

Tried the stack of 4 ... it asks me which item to use it on ... it's probably Identify, so I select a random single potion stack and discover: "w - a potion of mutation"

Great, now I can quaff-id without fear :)

Anyways, because I don't like to skip floors, there was some pretty heavy tormenting and healing and semi cBlinking going own. Luckily, as the mummies were soon to find out, an octopode with full power-barred ice storm, staff of Wucad Mu and Amulet of Four Winds is somewhat powerful 8-) .
