Lost 80sih hp in a turn due volcano's flames.Is it intended?

I've lost a a char in a volcano just now: I started resting to gain back some mana, while having no rf and 80ish hp (no idea of the right amount). I died in what I suppose is a single turn - as I couldn't take any action - from an explosion of flames. From the log it seems I've been hit 3 times - which would plausible because at least for db flame cloud can hit for 32 per turn (so I've been quite unlucky too).

Is it intended to be hit 3 times in this way? (I wasn't slowed)

Evidently my char preferred some roasted beef rather than raw meat, but he hadn't yet grasped the basic concept of bbq.
Yeah, a interrupt warning could be a nice solution - dying only because I started to rest without considering my hunger status in a potentially dangerous area isn't particularly exciting.

I've often wondered why all food items don't all take one turn to eat. I guess it differentiates fruits and beef jerkies from rations or chunks, or punishes spellcasters who let themselves get to Starving with enemies next to them.

Of course eating should be interrupted just like dressing. Auto-eating should not kill you just like that. It's a bug, imo.

But yeah, one turn for eating anything would be fine.

Should've considered the hunger cost. Maybe food that's been exposed to flame should have some kind of bonus, e.g. after one turn of exposure, you get a different message when eating like "that flame-kissed chunk of flesh tasted kind of good" and the amount of time to eat it would be adjusted down, since you're no longer "choking down" raw meat (this may've saved your poor adventurer). Perhaps with further exposure, it would get burnt and so go back to the usual 3.0 auts and a modified choking message with "burnt meat" instead of "raw meat."

On the other hand, the benefit of turning chunks into 1.0 aut instameals shouldn't come too cheap. Maybe if there were some kind of evocables that help facilitate the conversion it would be more balanced or better yet some kind of trainable character stat that controls how much the eating time changes when the player exposes a chunk to fire...

For what it's worth (and sorry for posting seriously in a CYC thread), I'd be fine with interrupts for food-eating, and I suspect so would most devs - it's much more of a technical issue than a design issue. (The code for interrupts is a nightmare.)

If someone wants to dig into that mess and cook up a patch, I strongly suspect it would be accepted.

to elaborate: I don't think it's desirable to have a ubiquitous source of single-turn nutrition that doesn't cost permanent resources. (zin's vitalization and hydra form are exceptions to this, but they have some pretty obvious catches.)

Does hydra form actually give nutrition? I was using it on my VpTm and it seemed to give no nutrition when I was eating people. Maybe it just doesn't give nutrition if you're a vampire?

Speaking as the implementer of hydra form, I have absolutely no idea how it interacts with vampires.
