Mercilessly massacring everything in sight in an unstoppable blood craze and ritually sacrificing the corpses... is as evil as it gets

No no no, mindless unstoppable violence isn't inherently *evil* it's simply inherently *violent*

The corpse sacrifice is just how he greases the wheels of his giant slaughter machine, nothing evil about it.

And one can certainly be nonviolent, but evil (Have you never played illuminati?)

Evil...no...

Trog is just some guy who likes the colour Red. His granted powers include 'See Red' and 'Paint the Dungeon Red'. Corpses are an unfortunate but necessary by-product of this process but should not be left lying around cluttering up the domain of this interior-designer of a deity.

But Trog also appreciates killing demons etc. which don't leave red paint behind...

Exactly. Because he's not evil, he wants you to kill demons, even though they don't help with the paint job.

As already noted destruction is not inherently evil. Every DCSS player character is inherently a genocidal maniac anyway. Heck, most RPG protagonists are, going by modern standards.

OP it's because he is not opposed to the intersection of ideals that TSO, Ely, and Zin represent.

You kill things under a lot of gods, why is Trog's killing evil when TSO's killing isn't?

Everything in the dungeon except Divas is fucking evil or at best neutral and hungry for your flesh. You are tipping the cosmic scales heavily towards good by clearing out the place. And if you happen to whack a diva or two, well, you already made up for it by killing 1309 orcs, 1123 orc wizards, 1003 orc priests, 892 orc warriors, 887 kobolds, 745 skeletons, 652 zombies, etc...
