Default Gender?

Did I miss some changes to tiles dolls or is it just the alcohol? When I roll a new char it seems I always get the same gender depending on species

human always female
merfolk always female
deep elf always female
hill orc always female
deep dwarf always male
minotaur always male
troll always female

and so on and so forth... maybe im going insane idk

and if anybody asks, I could tell them appart by the big... shoulders. yeah that's it, sinewy shoulders. Is sinewy a real word?

Of course, you can render this moot by immediately going in and changing the paperdoll. Apparently Crawl does not really encourage you doing RPG things like character customisation, but I'm always more likely to try and preserve and take fewer stupid risks with a character I spent ten minutes customising the appearance of, rather than an @ symbol or the generic doll.
