Is this normal?

PostPosted: Thursday, 25th December 2014, 14:00
by Aule
I've posted about this vault in another thread, jokingly, but seriously, now. What is with this gnoll vault on D:3? I've encountered it at least 3 times in the past 20 games. An orc warrior, 3 orc priests, 2 gnoll shamans, a gnoll sergeant, and 35 gnolls all roaming about D:3 without anyone opening their door? Reaching XL8 by completion of D:3? This is seriously unbalanced, IMO. I get that it benefits to be a higher level starting out, but one first has to survive this madness to enjoy it. Thoughts?

I'm going to assume this is lemuel's castle and then you got a random orc band (the orcs wouldn't be part of the castle monsters).

I just started having vaults logged in my morgues, so I won't know for sure until the end, but it sounds about right. It's like a long fortress surrounded by a moat and having a wide doorway.

So that lemuel is a real motherfucker, eh? Found an insane vault that was like the library of Alexandria in my last serious Fo game that as it turns out was called the "lemuel_crystal_altar." There were like 8-10 books with 10 spells each in them, but at least there was something there to justify the madness. I didn't see much in the way of loot for this D:3 vault. It contained exactly one scroll of recharging, and nothing else.

It's a shame his acid_trip was ruined forever by the cruel devteam; that vault was just something else.

...lemuel_crystal_altar is a simple altar vault; it places no books.

You probably are looking for evilmike_library_of_no_secrets or similar.

That's the one. I checked the morgue, and all those books were ided on d:12, which was indeed the evilmike_library_of_no_secrets.

Effin awesome stuff. Those especially hairy vaults should be required to have good loot like that. Not necessarily that much, but certainly something of a high quality.

Hard vaults are their own reward.

I didn't say they were a reward for the player.

In a game where a vault shaped like a vagina exists, I can reasonably expect vaults to be outlandish, silly, overly difficult, or a combination of the three.

In the mentioned case of a vagina vault, I assume that just penetrating the vault would be considered its own reward. Loot would be counterproductive. One could slip in slowly, or pound it like a battering ram, but either way the climax is supposed to feel like being fucked.
