Before you leave, care to explain how the change you posted simplifies Crawl?

By the way, my last character would be stronger with the change but I was playing 0.15. It was with Ash and it didn't use Vitality, 2 rings of regeneration and even artifact ring with Regen and Dex+3 because it had 2 cursed rings and needed those for resists. But it had amulet slot uncursed because of corrosion/stasis/rMut.

I would uncurse one ring slot in that case and use Vitality by default, probably. I can hardly imagine stasis being useful for a character without some bad mutation, and I never use rCorr outside of Slime.

somewhere in some damp corner of the internet there's a contest going on for who can quit crawl over the most minute change

it's funny that people said they were quitting over item weight, but I at least see where it comes from since item weight seemed a lot more important than it actually was, this is just bizarre

BACK IN MY DAY WE GOT SICK SOMETIMES WHEN WE ATE BROWN CHUNKS AND WERE BETTER OFF FOR IT.

AND I COULD PLAY AT LEAST 4 DIFFERENT KIND OF ELVES DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH OF A PRETTY PRETTY PRINCESS I WAS FEELING LIKE.

But for srs, this actually feels like a good change from "no brainer" to "think about kit." Could you at least give some form of explanation?

Well, back in my day vampires couldn't bottle blood.

Just think of all the meaningful and interesting decisions the player had to make...

We should throw a going away party for all the rage-quitters. Get a bunch of mountain dwarves and sludge elves together, some gnomes all keeping hydrated with potions of water, grey elves playin' pranks with projected noise, everyone victory dancin' in their GDA or their +5 robes... Lots of sickness going around but hey, we can't let that keep us from having a good time. Jozef and Lamia will be there, man, you don't want to miss it.

Honestly, I don't really get where the 'rage-quitters' are coming from.

Like, if you prefer the older versions... Play the older versions? Or am I missing something.

(In all seriousness: yeah man I don't understand it either. The fact that it was *this* change that somehow broke the camel's back is particularly strange.)

FWIW I switched to playing stable version (0.15) because trunk can have potentially unbalanced items and features. I mean I could understand OP if it was in stable version but trunk can have many things which break the game and it is completely ok and even expected.

That's it, I'm out. This game is getting way too simple!

. . . maybe the missing subtext is that skjarl recently got out of an ugly relationship with an amulet?

Another possible explanation is that nobody knows how to pronounce 'skjarl'.

Right? I mean, what does the OP expect (not that skjarl cares either). I would like an explanation as well, but frankly, that explanation is likely angsty nostalgic bullshit.

The game is definitely better off now that your elf options are "Orlando Bloom" or "Goth Orlando Bloom," none of this wishy washy stuff. DCSS thrives on this sort of decision. You only have two Orlando Bloom options, so it's a tough call.

Why would it surprise you that we are making jokes in this thread? After all, we are apparently the monsters doing grave damage to this game and making it, step by step, into progress quest.

In Progress Quest's defense though, I think there's some design space for an Eel-Man in Crawl.

IIRC he just has his own fork, with Dj and all that.

That's cool—and to preface this I should say I know very little about coding—but then how does it involve doing additional work if something is added in Trunk that you don't like? Wouldn't you just opt not to add that particular change/update to your fork, and then you are good to go? Am I missing something here? Like, the more "bad" changes to the game that one does not want to incorporate, the less work one has to do to maintain a fork, right? (Or does it not work this way and I should just shut up?)

Edit: vv Thanks, duvessa. That makes sense.

Great, another octopode nerf. Might as well just cut octopuses and replace beef jerky with kalamari while you're at it, devs.

Let's say your fork is completely identical to Crawl. That's the easiest possible one to maintain; to update it you just merge master (apply all the commits from Crawl). Now let's say you don't like the new Vampire Shark Robot race, and don't want it in your fork. That's already more work; you have to merge all the commits from master except for the ones that added Vampire Shark Robot. But that's still pretty easy, right? What do you do when a week later Crawl devs add the Mutant Death Werequokka race and it uses some of the same code as Vampire Shark Robot? To get Mutant Death Werequokka working in your fork you'll have to start making your own changes to the code.

XuaXua: the stylish non-wizard hat, handcrafted with skill, made of lovely lamb leather and ornate with a fantastic pheasant feather is gone.

What's left? Ridiculous cone-shapped Harry Potter hats...

It would have suit the Vampire Shark Robot perfectly...

I don't see how a minotaur (or Formicid?) can wear that wizard hat without shoving his horns (or antennae) through it. That was probably the rationale for the cap/beret.

I feel you, bro. I quit playing Crawl because White Elves were not implemented. Just think about the variety and complexity they would have brought to DCSS, it's just painful to think how simple Crawl is without them, basically no interesting decision/trade offs for players to make/take into consideration.

The removal of mountain dwarves was so bad I quit playing like 10 or 15 times over it, and this was before I had even heard of dungeon crawl!
Similarly, I probably quit a good 50 times over the removal of victory dancing. I mean, come on, are the devs just the bad guys from Footloose?

I plan to quit a few more times soon, just to keep the devs on their toes. Plus, the new robe tiles oversimplified the game to the point that you might as well call it "Babby's first Rouge-like")

FR: Rename Gargoyles to "Babby's first Rouge-like", with the misspellings intact! They will of course still be abbreviated as GR.
