Found a Staff of Summoning on D:1 for my MuSu. It's funny because that thing really helped. I probably splatted 20+ MuSu's without ever making it past the Lair, but on the playthrough that got me that Staff of Summoning on D:1, I took that character to my first 15 rune victory.

I once had a shirt with a pattern that was uncomfortably close to dazzle camouflage. It prevented me from finding out where various parts of my body were.

Yes that's called a running joke, what whippersnappers today know as a "meme", though that's a debased usage.

I found fire dragon armor on D:1 before. And guess what? I was playing a Draconian (I think. It could have been an octopode. I know I couldn't wear it at all) :(

Here's something cool though. Not exactly D:1, but still...

Image

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Xom can be pretty cool...at times. Once, he gave me a bottled Efreet and I killed myself with it :P

My current character is a plaything of Xom, and so far, amongst various good things (like confusing all my enemies when they confuse me, to giving me the evolution mutation), the latest thing was that he gave me a 'minor favor', which happened to be the equivalent of a potion of experience. At D:7 (In the Orcish Mines)!

It helps that my amulet of stasis prevents him from teleporting me all over the place :D

EDIT: And THEN I found a Grand Grimore at D:3 :O

Oh, come now. When was the last time you saw a mountain dwarf at all, much less an assassin? Shows just how stealthy they are these days.

Ditto. I swear my SpEn found a +8 +8 ring of slaying. I think it was D:1 but it may have been as deep as D:4. Yes, it died later. I was too new to the game to realize it was might be the single strongest item ever generated by the RNG!

I'm near certain i found the ring on D1, though it could possibly have been 2...

I think the very next game after that one started in a vault with an "orb of Zot" and 3 "runes" behind a transparent wall - and ended approximately 200 turns later when i got one-shot electrocuted by a kobold from full health, still on level 1. I secretly consider this to be the fastest "speed run" ever, and steadfastly refuse to be dissuaded from that belief by the fact that the Orb was clearly fake, or even by the wee niggling detail that I didn't technically get out alive.

A few things Ive found to be incredibly useful on D1 or D2, not necessarily found in the same game:

8 darts of dispersal
4 curare needles
2 needles of paralysis
a dagger of venom/draining/electricity (+ whatever + whatever)
an uncursed sling (dropped by a goblin) and 16 sling bullets (same goblin)
2 potions of cure wounds

and this one time??
a potion of speed AND a wand of frost. Fuck. Yes.
