I love nets!

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

I love nets!

That's all.

Duvessa, Sigmund, an early necrophage, all turned into couches. And beaten.

Especially since they lost all the special cases. Love it.

For me, they even
1) Miss
or
2) Hold the guy for 1-3 turns and become a weaker net, if not completely disappearing.

2) sounds pretty good there. I mean, even if you manage to hold the guy for 2 turns, that's a free hit against an EV penalised enemy, more if you have low delay on your weapon, and it's not like they don't usually last longer.

Re: I love nets!

Nets have saved my life against early Gnolls and Ogres more times than I can count. Beyond that? Not as useful. Spiny Frogs and Black Mambas break out and continue their ferocious assault too quickly for me to do any decent extra damage.

Nets are also great anti-unique weapons though! Even mid-game uniques can be hurt hard, particularly ones that can't cast Blink. Harold, Maud, Joseph, these are good candidates.

Re: I love nets!

Unfortunately nets cannot be tested with fsim but my tests in wizmode showed that nets hit ancient lich (AC 20, EV 10) relatively often (50+% with Str 25 and Dex 23) and then the monster wastes turns trying to escape from net. Of course sometimes it still casts LCS despite being in net so the trick does not guarantee an easy fight.

I have seen people netting pan lords (the ones that are not giant). Throwing nets are very strong the whole game. The thing is that they tend to break quite easily and are pretty rare most of the game.

Re: I love nets!

I had a ten rune KoBe win where I killed 3 of the pan lords with netstabbings. Cerebov was too large for nets. I checked the hell lords, only Antaeus is too big for nets. With a quick blade, there a good 3-6 stabbing attempts per net. It's super-effective.

Before 0.14 (I think...) nets could get a couple separate quality statuses, which didn't stack. Something like net > slightly frayed net > frayed > heavily frayed (how quickly one forgets!), according to how much each net had been struggled against, and how close to outright destruction each was.

It just meant multiple stacks of nets in inventory.

Now it's just net > no more net.
