Welcome, sgrunt the delicious cheese!
You are seized by a feeling of anomie.
You feel compelled to take your own life.
You die...

I believe that falls into a different sort of platitude: "A man who has himself for a doctor has a fool for a patient." (Same thing for lawyers: "A man who has himself for a Lawyer has a fool for a client.")

So are you saying that if you are a woman then it's okay to perform brain surgery on yourself and then represent yourself in court?

Yes, according to the Tampax commercial I saw on TV last night, "You women can do anything you want!" Just as long as they have Tampax.

No.
(Aside: if they could do that at any level of competence that would be a win in my book.)

Though I do believe this quote came about before it was common to be gender neutral in conversation. Politically correct language is a relatively recent thing (45 or so years). But it isn't hard to fix it to be more modern:

"A person who has themself for a doctor has a fool for a patient."

"Fool" is offensive and insensitive, try "alternative thinker".

Re: Suicide cheese

the sooner we accept "they" as singular-gender-neutral-third-person the better the english language will be
