What kind of computer do you play Crawl on?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

What kind of computer do you play Crawl on?

The subject says it all. I'm just wondering whether people play on Macs, PCs, or Linux, and what kind of computer you play on. For example, do you play on an ancient laptop, or on a high-end gaming rig?

My Current computer:
Thermaltake Element T case
Gigabyte GA-770T-USB3 motherboard
AMD Athlon X4 2.6 GHz (stock cooler)
2x2 gig Patriot DDR3 1333
MSI Cyclone Radeon 4890
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro
OCZ ModExtreme 600W PSU
WD Caviar Blue 3.0 gbps 160 GB drive
ASUS CD-DVD drive

Peripherals:
LG Flatron E2350V monitor
Logitech G110 keyboard
Wolfking Warrior keypad
Logitech G500 mouse
Razer Destructor mousepad
Audio Technica AD-700 headphones

And now for what I intend to have soon, same peripherals:

XClio A-380 Color Plus case
ECS Black Extreme P67H2-Hydra motherboard
Intel Core i7 2600k Sandy Bridge Processor @ 5 GHz
2x Radeon 6970
8 GB G.SKILL RipjawsX DDR3 2133
OCZ RevoDrive 120 GB, ~500 megabytes per second read/write speed
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB hard drive, 64 MB Cache, SATA III
Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler
And assorted other extra fans, and a random CD-DVD burner drive

Re: What kind of computer do you play Crawl on?

Eh. Just a pc laptop. Nothing spectacular, but it'll do what I want it to most of the time.

2.4GHz dual core cpu
4gb ram
GeForce 8600M GT gpu
Crappy SigmaTel audio dealie
Monitor's... I think 15 inch? Max res is only 1280x800 though. Kinda annoying.

Tends to overheat if I'm playing anything srs on it, so I have a little desk fan trained on it. Yeah, it's ghetto, but it's cheap, it works, and it doesn't break if you look at it funny like the little laptop cooling pads.

You might look into SpeedFan. It adjusts the speed of your computer's internal fan in response to changing temperatures.

I play on a cheap laptop (Gateway ML3109) but I always plug in an extended keyboard (the doughty Dell SK-8115) and a proper mouse because a number pad is essential for a comfortable Crawling experience.

I play on anything that can run PuTTY ;).

Re: What kind of computer do you play Crawl on?

First played 0.4 (? I think) on a Gateway laptop circa 1999, before it stopped being able to load webpages & got retired.

Play now on my old Gateway laptop/tablet, if I'm out and about, or mostly on my gaming rig at home - which is a bit overkill for Crawl, I must admit. The laptop runs Ubuntu Linux, my main desktop runs Windows 7. The tablet is nice for tiles, since I can just use the tablet pen, especially now with the action bar at the side.

Re: What kind of computer do you play Crawl on?

My crawling is almost 100% at my SO's place. She does shift work with 12 hour shifts. I keep an old laptop at her place. The laptop runs Debian with a full KDE 4 desktop with effects, animations, and file indexers turned off. You'll see why. The specs are pretty meagre:

-A 1.5 Ghz Celeron processor
-512 MB DDR 533(?) laptop memory
-A slow 60BG HDD (With my only Windows install anywhere on a 15 GB partition. Mostly for iTunes** and 'just in case'. XP + Virus Scanner + Decent Firewall is actually much slower than Debian + KDE 4.)
-A bog standard Intel graphics chip that shares the RAM
-A DVD + CDRW drive
-A horrible broadcom wifi chip
-Integrated sound on some very tinny laptop speakers

I'm shocked that this thing preforms as well as it does. I can load my desktop, open a browser with 3 tabs, and play whatever version of Crawl Debian feeds me without any major pain.

** My iTunes on the laptop points at a 2 TB media store on a Samba share on my desktop at my home. To sync my iPod Touch I have to physically plug in my laptop into my home Lan (wireless is too flaky and often fails to sync). I've has bad luck with the Linux iPod tools. Some combination of Hardware and iOS version always seems to mess me up. I could probably make it work, but the burden of walking home with my old laptop isn't all that bad, and 'shrug' effort.

Re: What kind of computer do you play Crawl on?

My device has 18,688 nodes (4 nodes per blade, 24 blades per cabinet), each containing a 16-core AMD Opteron 6274 CPU with 32 GiB of DDR3 ECC memory and an Nvidia Tesla K20X GPU with 6 GiB GDDR5 ECC memory. This totals 299,008 processor cores, 693.6 TiB of CPU, and GPU RAM.

I use it to power Firefox so I can play WebTiles.

I'm so familiar with the rules of crawl that all I need to play is a random number generator.
