A new unique hammer needs to be added to the game. It is called the Ban Hammer. When you kill a creature with it, no creature of the same species will ever spawn/be generated for the rest of the current game. It is highly effective against trolls.

As a side note, why does Crazy Yuif wield a quarterstaff when he is surrounded by 1 to 15+ hammers?

you have to worry about food before you can worry about productions. and really science is king so you want beakers above hammers, and you aint getting none of that without food

growth is limited by happiness, and you can get around beakers through clever tech-trading if you manipulate the ai properly

you need hammers for building stacks to defend/attack and for quick expansion through early settlers, plus for wonders if you want them

although pop+slavery can substitute for production for a while

semi-on-topic reply:

In my current Pathfinder game, I have the party investigating the murder of the blacksmith. See, nobody knows how he died, or where his flesh might be, but his animated skeleton showed up at the anvil, and now pounds away at it. He makes a single iron or lead hammer each day, pounding away ceaselessly and rhythmically all day to do so.

The townspeople, needing blacksmith services anyway, have been ignoring the whole "death" thing, and putting their stuff under his hammer to get it done. This seems to work.

the poor bastard lets out a supersonic shriek of terror if disturbed in any way. The party, staying at the inn next door to the smith's shop, have been losing sleep because of the pounding.

^This has given me an idea. Why wouldn't some uniques spawn as a skeleton or zombie or even a transmutated version. Sigmund the steam dragon, for example or Donald the Zombie. Of course it would be nice if their level of dangerousness wouldn't suffer to much. Donald is a melee fighter, so being a zombie shouldn't affect him that much, but powerful casters/ranged fighters would make a much weaker zombie. Maybe make them a spectre?

I'd think being zombified would effect Donald tremendously, seeing as the only thing he can do to people outside his melee range is walk at them.
