Quaffing might/agility/brilliance before winning

Quaffing might/agility/brilliance before winning

Why do people quaff brilliance/might/agility before leaving dungeon? I know it makes sense during tournaments but otherwise it does nothing except makes it more difficult to determine how powerful the character really was (AC/EV/spell failure chance/spell power/spell hunger).

Maybe it just feels good to have an even more badass character on the record. But how does it make sense during tournaments?

Tournament rated players with most AC+EV combined

Welp, we've done it guys, we've found the most pointless crawl question possible. Everyone pack up.

Actually I was going to suggest stopping it, it makes harder to compare characters for me ;)
But first I wanted to know whether there is a hidden reason for doing it.

No, I can think of a more pointless crawl question:
Are mummies wrapped clockwise, or counter-clock wise?

Personally, I think you should get the option to choose at character generation. If you choose wrong, your wrappings fall off when you get to depths, and all damage comes off your max HP, but you lose your RF-. If you choose right, you still have to play a mummy, so it's really not much better.

Some people do it to hit totally arbitrary numbers for AC and EV so they can power cars or something.

I've done it, just to cheer my own victory. It's a way to say "hurray I'm awesome" and I imagine those good potions are tasty. I suppose it does mess up comparisons but I never thought too hard about that angle.

Why limp out of the dungeon back to the world of man, beast and monster when you can saunter?

It's just fun. Why not do the opposite - quaff slowing, confusion and deliberately miscast a bunch of spells before leaving? That could be fun too :)

Oh right I forgot. The state of a character when he leaves the dungeon tells you nothing about how strong or weak the character really was. The state of the character when he enters zot for the first time in most sanely played games is much more informative.

To compare 2 characters I need their dump at similar time. Since I cannot have a dump at the moment of entering Zot I use winner dump. Theoretical example: some DEFE of Vehumet in MDA has Necromutation and Fire Storm and AC 15/EV 20 while another DEFE of Vehumet in MDA with only Fire Storm but AC 20/EV 35 and more HP. Also it's useful to compare DE and HE for example.

You can ask bots for the status of characters when they reached a certain milestone.

I am not experienced with bots, actually I don't even know how to check player ghosts which seems to be very useful for online play. Maybe I will feel desire to learn it some day.

  Code:
!log PLAYERNAME LOCATION

usually suffices for that.

For those not using IRC (like me) the quickest way I found to check out ghosts that worry me is go to:
http://crawl.akrasiac.org/scoring/playe ... rname.html

where playername is the ghost's name in lowercase, and click in recent games the one that matches the ghost.
