Average Species

Purely for statistical purposes, I've thrown the 24 species of 0.13 into a skill apt blender to see what the average apt is for each skill. I rounded up and down.

HP: 0
MP: 0
Fighting: 0
Short Blades: 0
Long Blades: 0

Axes: -1
Maces & Flails: -1
Polearms: -1
Staves: -1

Unarmed Combat: 0
Throwing: 0

Slings: -1
Bows: 0
Crossbows: -1
Armour: -1

Dodging: 0
Stealth: 1
Shields: -1
Fire Magic: -1
Ice Magic: -1
Air Magic: -1
Earth Magic: -1
Poison Magic: -1
Spellcasting: -1
Conjurations: -1

Hexes: 0
Charms: 0

Summonings: -1
Necromancy: -1
Translocations: -1
Transmutations: -1

Invocations: 1
Evocations: 1

Experience: 0

Stealth was the best universally good skill of the bunch. It was the only one that averaged over 1, whereas invo/evo were rounded up to 1. If you're a stealthy species, you're just a mainstream sheep following the crowd of other stealth creatures.

Spellcasting was the worst of the bunch. Wasn't bad enough to average -2, but it was the closest. Deep Elf is a hipster who claims to have 'been spellcasting before it got popular'.

In conclusion, the Human is above average.

Re: Average Species

it's not the "average" if it's not the "average". someone has to do something about this: i propose all species bonuses are tweaked as to make the total average of skills 0 across all races, alternatively keep current aptitudes as are but tweak the way they are displayed as to make the current average equal to (displayed) 0.

the first solution would be preferred because it would effectively make humans average and not above but the second would do.

all for the sake of simplicity of course.

Skipped them and divided by 23 instead of 24, for say, felids not wielding axes.

Re: Average Species

Also a while a go, Stealth was cheaper with 0 apt than other skills, and spellcasting was more expensive with 0 apt than other skills, those skill costs were normalized, and apts were adjusted to keep all races in line with their old costs (Pretty much every race got -1 to spellcasting apt, and +1 to stealth apt) which is probably why those show up as outliers.
