Species: Shadowborn

This is a spellcasting race with human-speed leveling. Opposed to the elves that hit level 2 by the time they reach The Lair. This is a missing niche. Can argue otherwise, but there are no pure casters at human leveling speed. Put this in CYC since there is less pressure here, and it won't lower it's chance of getting into the game.

When a Witch has a child, it comes out wrong. Infused with darkness and evil, these rare but powerful species are simply named Shadowborn. They seem Human on the outside, but they are more attuned to magic. When a human boy begins helping farm the crops, a Shadowborn boy begins learning the dark arts, and he practices them night and day. The three Good Gods refuse to let a Shadowborn worship them. The Shadowborn doesn't care because those Gods are boring and tedious and cry like babies for doing things you have to do in Crawl. Shadowborns like being assassins, and they enjoy their necromancy. So The Shining Zinlyvilon can shove it, they say. 5 STR, 7 INT, 6 DEX.

No it is not. Leveling speed is one of the least noticeable things about a species. There is zero reason to specifically add a new one to fill this "niche".

I suppose zero isn't less than zero.

On the bright side, I like how you format your species proposals.
On IRC my nick is reaverb. I play online under the name reaver, though.

Thank you. Any feedback on improving the format and/or the species is welcome. :)

I would have to agree, you definitely know how to make a proposal look nice. :D

As far as improving suggestions, I think coming up with a crazy, totally out their idea is much better than being conservative when it comes to species proposals. I mean, look at felids, Octopodes, and Dwants? They are all pretty far out their if you ask me, but they are all incredibly fun and interesting to play(I personally am not a huge fan of Formicids/Dwants though).

As far as general proposal suggestions go, i find the best way to go about something is to do it with a very modest attitude. Do it for fun and see if their is enough community support then their is a chance it will be added to the game.

Although you don't always have to most plausible ideas, I love your attitude that you have with it, I think a lot of people(including me) could learn from that. :)

A good spellcasting race with human-speed leveling are, surprisingly, humans.

IMO it's pretty noticeable, at least in the early game it is.

After playing to much skyrim I need a way to make a Dragonborn joke for this thread.

;)

Could work but it's not a stone tentacled cat, so not Crawl-worthy.

Re: Species: Shadowborn

there is a dragonborn in crawl already, it is called draconian.
anyway, Formicids level faster than humans, and are pretty good earth elementalists.
my posts are to be read in a mildly playful tone, with a deep, sexy voice.
