Does anyone have tips and tricks 4 picking up girls? Trying 2 be alpha but I don't have enough arm strength and I just end up dropping them on the ground and then they get mad (no 2nd date).

I've read a book about alpha and beta male hierarchy, and I have admit this is true, cos I see proof every day as I communicate with people. Looks like I'm not alpha unfortunately. The book is in Russian though, idk if there is a translation, otherwise I would link it.

The concept of an alpha existing is not the same as alpha male psychology, which is what I am taking issue with(the commonly held idea that males are inherently dominant in all mammals or even all animals). You will notice that your first link starts off with "Males, females, or both, can be alphas, depending on the species." It's much more complicated than "men big, men strong, men in charge!" shit that PUA stuff tries to sell.

Again, I am not debating the concept of dominance hierarchies.

It "works" in the sense that yes, you can get laid once in a while by exploiting desperate and insecure people, but you can do a whole lot better both in terms of how much you get laid and also being a decent human being by avoiding it.

On D:9 I teleported from a pack of killer bees which would die but would leave me at too low HP and on landing I lost 37 HP immediately

At least you have MP+9 and Str+2, as well as a curse-slot? Also, it will give /some/ SH if you put in some Shield levels, and Ash helps with that.

I'm having a bit of a dilemma with Crawl. I don't love it when I'm not a formicid now.

I played nothing but formicid for many months, aiming for a win with all backgrounds as them. Having finally managed this (in spite of everything; I only remotely know how to play brute force melee), I came to love a lot of things about the race. Digging makes many areas much less of a pain in the buttocks. Innate see invisible removes an annoying mechanic altogether and makes a couple of normally troublesome enemies into bags of XP. Their strong limb gimmick allows one to enjoy both shields and a two-handed damage output. More than anything, I *really* enjoy a teleportless, hasteless, slowless Crawl. It takes away perhaps the biggest get-out-of-jail-free cards in the game as well as nuisances like a couple of the most annoying mutations, teleport other spells, teleport traps on Zot:5, and *Tele artifacts that are otherwise fantastic.

It has unfortunately made it more difficult to properly enjoy other races. It depends partly on what areas are in the game and my general circumstances, but Spider and Elf especially make me really regret not being a formicid, and it lingers throughout most of the game otherwise. Formicid Crawl is, to my mind, very significantly more fun and more satisfying than non-Fo Crawl.

Speaking of which, I don't love it when Spider is in the game at all. It probably annoys me more than Shoals at this point. It's not particularly dangerous, so it's frankly boring and it rarely feels like much of an actual achievement to obtain the rune, yet at the same time it does its damnedest to make the process frustrating with enemies that practically beg you to make killpits or stairdance constantly, enemies that pose little danger on their own but do incredibly annoying things as long as they remain in your line of sight. It also throws an awful damned lot of generic spiders at you in addition to them. You're fighting popcorn constantly. It almost never seems any harder than Snake, but often feels like a lot more effort.

Heh, I feel completely the opposite. Snake often feels like a struggle, while those squishy spiders die fast :)

To each their own! I think I've had a tendency to be a bit lacking in damage at that point in the game lately from a long-standing habit of hoarding enchantment scrolls for the "right" weapon...

I really do not love it when orc sorcerers and *especially* high priests decide to summon things. Sixfirhies and rust devils are on an entirely different level of annoying and dangerous. I just lost a promising DgGl when I went downstairs and found an orc high priest immediately next to me. It promptly summoned a rust devil. Of course, I'll just go upstairs!...and it summoned another one.

If they don't summon anything significantly stronger or more debilitating than they themselves are, they aren't nearly as dangerous generally. It seems to be more of a problem with high priests than sorcerers.

Corrosion in general is something that sort of bothers me. I wouldn't want it removed; it's an interesting debuff and it's certainly in a better state now than it was in the past. But monsters like rust devils and entropy weavers (ugh) that exist solely to liberally apply said debuff over and over again just rub me the wrong way.

As I wrote in another thread, I switched to Age of Wonders 3 and the game made me sad, it has a "Show numbers" option turned on by default so I can plan my moves without dying. Why cannot DCSS have the same?

I dislike uniques that are completely harmless if you have *x*, but capable of completely screwing you over if you don't. For Sonja and Nessos, it's a disabling or polymorphing wand. Menkaure is a pointless bag of XP if you have a single potion of lignification. Kirke's just a moderately powerful summoner if you have MR. Those are the biggest examples I can think of, but I may be missing a couple.

Uniques are the closest things to bosses that Crawl has, and a boss that falls over because you happened to find the Random Object of *y* Slaying is lame. You get free XP if you do and you just avoid them if you don't. It's no fun, man.

Menkaure is a pointless bag of XP and Kirke's just a moderately powerful summoner either way
