It's always frustrating when your only entrance is blocked. I remember going to the swamp entrance and immediately seeing Rupert, Fannar and a Hydra

My favorite was getting poisoned on like D:2, I'm low on health and near death, and I start quaffing potions hoping for curing. First try, a potion of confusion. The second try, a potion of mutation. I get poison resistance and clarity.

For a moment, I thought I was in TOME 4 forums.

My very first crawl game.
I had no clue that felids are a challenge race so I ventured forth with my felid necromancer.
I encounter a rat which I valiantly triumphed.
Second monster was a goblin, he had a +2+2 shortsword of electorcution...

I came across a hobgoblin on D1 yesterday who had picked up a suit of golden dragon armour I hadn't seen much use for. Magic darts aren't amazingly effecive against that. Searing ray works just fine though, took me a bit of stair dancing to work up enough xp to learn it, and no, I don't love it when I'm forced on to D2 before I've even found myself a dagger, worth it for the look on my face when I got back to where the GDA had been and figured out why that little b* had been so stubborn about dying.

This is somewhat disappointing. I'd like to have some piety granted when you die.

Fedhas obviously only intervenes directly if you're no longer capable of doing so. If you want your piety, go p your own corpse away.

Also, I thought new Abyss was supposed to have an easy top level. My XL10 MiBe got absolutely swarmed within a couple hundred turns.

abyss:1 is currently easily more dangerous than every past version of abyss put together

Well, I didn't even realize that he could lie about it (I didn't pay much attention). Perhaps that was a Profane Servitor, it was on the same level.

I don't know how does Xom's Detect Monsters actually work, but I noticed it often reveals a correct "type" of monster (by glyph). So it reveals all dragons as hydras (same glyph), I think it revealed Jorgrun once as gnome, etc.

Yes, I thought Xom always reveals correct types, I saw Jorgrun as gnome in this game too.

I thought he often shows complete nonsense like when misled.

That definitely looks like you only sensed the glyph. It is almost certainly a lost soul, not an orb of fire.

Centaur hunter meets a lonely gnoll on D1. Centaur hunter is full on HP, but decides to head for the exit, just in case. You never know what happens. Gnoll throws a spear. Spear happens to be a beefed up spear of distortion... The rest is history :evil:

This room happens. What are these yaks doing in D5? I've played this game for years, but never seen them that early in the game. Usually they don't show up before the lair.
