Item destruction is the devil.

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

There is no part of item destruction that is conductive to a fun game.

conducive.

We have other ways of killing players. It isn't a fun mechanic.

Re: Item destruction is the devil.

Item destruction makes Crawl a better game because it adds an important strategic layer to your tactics. Will you attack that Executioner that is about to cut you up or will you blast that white imp first to preserve your precious potions? Decisions, decisions.

Well, no shit, a near-harmless puff of frost destroying three of your potions is no fun, indeed. Maybe that's the problem.

Let's just remove consumables, it's obvious the devs hate them. Why else would draconian packs exist?

Also for Xom characters it's a good strategy to drop all your curing pots because it is so important to have them ready for Xom confusion and if you carry them around you risk losing them. I also wear conservation againts Cerebov instead of my randart rF++ amulet because I don't want to lose my amnesia scrolls on Trog characters. And BTW, carrying any potions of restore abilities in Tomb is just plain dumb because of simulacra.

We should probably make consumables undroppable so you can't just throw them when facing fire drake and the only way to save your precious potions is to drink them all!

Re: Item destruction is the devil.

The only one that's really frustrating for when is when fire destroys my only scroll of Blinking, usually right as more monsters start showing up due to the noise of imminent fiery death. After all, who doesn't love a pre-cooked meal? Most of the really rare/valuable potions you can at least leave stashed until you need them, like Cure Mutation.
