Wiglaf should do damage shaving and it should take ages to stop bleeding. (Edit: Or is that what you meant anyway?)

What I mean is since the mountain dwarfs and the hill dwarfs are extinct he must be a non-healing deep dwarf.

Is it because of the risk of bleeding to death, through non-healing, that dwarfs grow long beards?

Let's clarify: they're not extinct. No notion of genocide involved. They're just not allowed in the dungeon any more.

For obvious reasons.

Give bad rings a 10% chance to be uncursed.

To make wearing uncursed unid'd rings less of a no-brainer.

yay let's make detect curse even more useless
(I hope you don't mean artefact rings when you speak of wearing them being a no-brainer because that would be wrong)
(not that I would be opposed to a change like that if we at least kick detect curse out, but I quite like using them for wield-IDing a bunch of glowing weapons early and such so I'd prefer to keep them in)
(serious content in this thread, what, sorry guys)

I think it would be fun to have more than one level of Zot as a pre-designed challenge. It seems to me like once you get around to it, the first 4 levels are no more particularly challenging or interesting than the rest of the dungeon, and then there is a massive jump in difficult to Zot:5. Maybe another level between the two that is a taste of things to come?

A rune on Crypt:5 called the Cryptic Rune of Zot, but you have to finish a really hard crossword to get it.

Crawl crossword puzzles already have the letters filled in. The challenge is removing them.

Email Attack Mode!

A one-dimensional game of Crawl where the game picks a random forum user's email address, then spawns monsters with appropriate symbols in a horizontal corridor, placing the player where the @ would be. If you clear this level, you get teleported to another level generated from a different user's email address, and so on until the player character dies.

demigods should show signs of the god they are decendant from, ex. if your a child of xom being able to do crazy-ass random things or chei-children being slow but very strong, they could make it a random mutation thing like drac's

Every game should have a choice of difficulty modes!

DCSS, Easy mode:
A 75% chance to convert any unique friendly on sight, otherwise the unique performs a seppuku
    Food clock removed
    Death removed
Orb of Zot removed - it's so heavy, so mutating! No need to traumatize the newcomers! Just going down to the Temple, praying to a good god (evil gods are removed) and ascending is sufficient!
6 lives, 6 bombs, 2 seconds for deathbomb-

DCSS, Hardcore mode:
Every monster from D:1 to D:5 is Sigmund/Sigmund the 12-headed hydra
Branches are not branches now but the part of the main dungeon instead
The only hunger states are Hungry and Starving; you enter the Dungeon with the latter
Runes weigh 30 aum. each and are true to their names - serpentine rune will poison you, decaying rune will decay you, you'll have to make silver rune clean as you would do with silver spoons and forks, etc.
The game is now real-time, not turn-based
You have to compile the code every time in order to launch it

Honestly, I'd be totally for it (although not quite as silly for hard ;)), although it's unlikely to ever happen. It'd be nice having a pandemonium that could actually kill you, e.g., but it's currently impossible without multiple difficulties.

If demons are vulnerable to holy weapons, then angels should be vulnerable to demonic weapons.

Also, demonspawn should get extra powers in Hell (though maybe uncontrollable ones,) as they get closer to their ancestral home.

You forgot:
The computer does not have a monitor display but outputs onto printed tape.
Or, ultrahardcore:
No computer is involved. You have to calculate all the probabilities that would be produced by the RNG by hand after referring to look-up tables. Paper-and-pencil is allowed, pocket calculators and other electronic devices are not. The task includes calculating the possibilities of appearance for all encounters and objects, every turn.

Going back to the crossword puzzle idea, how about having monster generation be tied to the frequency of the letter glyphs in the language that your computer is set to?

English and French would see a lot of elves and elementals and not so many unseen horrors and abominations. Switch your locale to Czech or Polish to spawn more consonants. Use an African click-language if you're not getting enough potions.

Thurmund could be the oldest, and be said to have "political ambitions" in his flavor text. Also he supports segregation of Mountain Dwarves.

I'd honestly kinda like to see a theme level (perhaps a rune vault?) where there is a bridge over a sort of Scylla/Sarlaac pit monster that sends the odd tentacle up after you like a kraken would. In addtion to dealimg with monsters on the bridge. The monster itself would be unkillable, but the tentacles could pull down players and rune defenders alike.

Make cursed items interesting!

Not just a "you-can't-take-this-item-of"-curse, but different curses.

- Like a cursed sword that will sometimes gets to life and starts beating you.
- A cursed ring will suddenly reappear in your inventory when dropped to the ground.
- Cursed glooves that will make you drop your wielded weapon.

and so on...

Well that'd be interesting, but currently curses don't really even affect the game past D:6 since nobody runs out of remove curse :/ It'd be a lot of work for nothing.

There's been a couple threads on the tavern and elsewhere about making curses more of a hassle, but a lot of the game is balanced around the idea that curses are a mostly-harmless inconvenience after a certain point, so making curses more relevant would require working around that. I'd be all for it, though. (One idea I kind of liked was the idea of having levels of curses, a level 1 curse would just make the item stick to you, but worse curses would be worse, though I don't know how that would all work out in practice.)
