Most dangerous dragon?

Lately I have had a few characters die to white dragons, but, to me, death drakes remain the worst of the worst. What's your experience?

Sadly by the time dragons usually start appearing they are not very dangerous anymore. But the ice dragon in that Lair vault can be hard.

Duvessa mostly only considers monsters that are faster than average dangerous because you can't walk away. (And by itself, that's mostly true. It needs to be able to kill you from the edge of LoS or faster than average to be dangerous BY ITSELF, in groups...anything can manage to be dangerous.)

Komodo dragons are pretty strong, they bite hard and have good HP for the place where they appear, plus they are abundant and easily team up with other stuff, so I'm not too surprised to see them have top spot. I did not realize steam dragons are that frequent or dangerous.

My view of the game is changed by the fact that I played a lot of sprints lately, so I often met them at much lower levels than normal, but death drakes seem very bad to me because they are fast, can easily cause deep poisoning, slow you, make you rot, their effects have almost no acquirable resistance and they breathe clouds, so you can't just step to the side and keep whacking. And, even when they are dead, you can very well die because of the cloud surrounding you. I think the only safe way to handle them if you aren't at the right level are stone form, necromutation, or being a gargoyle or undead.

OTOH death drakes are really rare in normal Crawl, unless you get the Swamp end vault that has them. Otherwise it's mostly draconian callers in Zot who summon them. And some vaults I guess (+Abyss and Tartarus?).

How do people manage to die to pearl dragon? He doesn't even do anything. And when you meet him in Pan your char is usually near max level, at that time any dragon is harmless anyway.

I guess it's a surprise factor problem. If you don't know how they work, you can take a lot of damage from them, especially if you are undead or demonspawn, with the added bonus that there could be a few good guys with large shields smiting you in the meantime. If you choose the wrong target and don't notice the clouds, things are going south fast.

Percentage of kills by area would be better data than sheer number of kills. Of course the earliest game one gets the most kills, there are more characters that exist in early game. That said I don't know the query to use to get the desired data...but I did get this, which is interesting I guess...

I had a felid death to one...had extra lives to fall back on thankfully though. 3 AC, stuck in cloud, constant cloud damage. AHHH...(it was a frail conjurer felid, not a transmuter felid).
