PSA: Fewer Neqoxecs, more CureMut potions

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

PSA: Fewer Neqoxecs, more CureMut potions

https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/c ... 7ded94e719
  Code:
Reduce neqoxec spawn rates

Neqoxecs were particularly irritating in extended, where they pose absolutely
no physical danger, but threatened permanent harm unless handled carefully.
And they were everywhere. This cuts their spawn rates considerably.

Other devs: feel free to tweak if you think this isn't the ideal spawn rate.

https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/3 ... 810d13d382
  Code:
Increase potion of cure mutation spawn rate

Boosting potion of cure mutation frequency from 23 to 34; the stolen
frequency comes from potions of degeneration and flight.

I again invite other devs to further tweak these rates if they feel the
increase is excessive.
Wins (Does not include my GrEE^Veh 15-runer...stupid experimental branch)

And thats how we defeat the purpose of malmutate.

I dunno, "do I have enough bad muts to quaff a cmut" could be a reasonably fun minigame, if balanced right.

At this point im just waiting for crawl to become a game where 95% of the enemies you fight are completely trivial yet i still keep falling down shaftes and dying to player ghosts.

wouldn't that be a step up in difficulty compared to the current situation though

What is the purpose of malmutate then, anyways? What is exactly does it set out to achieve that it undermines?

No, seriously, what is Malmutate supposed to achieve? All these arguments about how mutation should work, but I'm not sure what it is supposed to achieve.

Re: PSA: Fewer Neqoxecs, more CureMut potions

Malmutate, item destruction, level drain, amongst other things, serve the purpose of raising the wall that the player has to get across in order to win the game. Without these, the game becomes a staircase simulator and hubris is the player's only enemy. Monster malmutate is the only handcapping effect still in the game(that i can think of) that cannot be avoided via degenerative playstyle.

Re: PSA: Fewer Neqoxecs, more CureMut potions

I'd hop on the "Malmutate gives very bad longer-lived temporary mutations" bandwagon, personally. Maybe a moderate chance for a permanent mutation to leak through sometimes, but altogether more of a tactical effect, less of a strategic one.
