new species: unipode
The unipode embarks upon new design space, while following the direction set by the previous additions of felid and octopode. They are intended to be, hands-down, the worst species available until the next species is introduced.
Basic characteristics:
Having a body geometry similar to a naga, unipodes have difficulty moving about the dungeon and move at the same rate as a naga. Similarly, they do not gain the constriction attack of their more arm-enabled kin until level 13.
Like octopodes, unipodes can wear a ring on each of their tentacles. Unlike octopodes, they only have one tentacle.
Unipodes can only wield one-handed weapons and cannot wield a shield while carrying a weapon. They can wear a shield though. Just not at the same time as a they wield a weapon. As far as armor goes, they can only wear a hat, like an octopode.
Having only one tentacle, unipodes do not have a well-defined midsection beneath their mantle. As a result they have no actual neck and so have no amulet slot.
Aptitudes:
Same as an octopode.
Analysis:
Unlike an octopode where you have tons of ring slots so you can just put on every ring you find, unipodes can only wear one ring. This makes the choice of ring an interesting decision. On the other hand, like a felid, you can hardly use any of the items in the dungeon, so you don't have to worry about picking stuff up as much. As with nagas, you have terrible movement naturally, so if you think Chei is good, you might think a Chei unipode is extra good.
With abbreviation "Up," unipodes introduce all kinds of fun combo names, e.g. "UpMo"... heh...
