What does "viable" mean?

I've been playing a string of viable transmuters, using the tab key to speed up character creation.

The last round gave me a Hill Orc transmuter, which is not a recommended choice.

Does "viable" mean anything different from "random" in this system? Is this just a quirk of using the tab key?
