A gift of +0 boots is pretty generous compared to what Okawaru sometimes gives you!

If you are completely lacking an armor slot, and haven't yet encountered a cloak or helmet or whatever yet in game, Okawaru is fairly likely to give you a vanilla version of that. (I like to think Okie is just conservative in his fashion sense and your casual lack of attire offends him, apparently. You aren't lounging around you are in the dungeon! Dress appropriately! Kids these days....) Anyway, the vanilla gloves and boots and caps aren't that bad as far as gifts go, so long as they don't spawn with a negative enchantment. Getting gloves, cloak, etc., especially if some of them have a +1 on them, is a really cheap way for characters to get your AC up a bit.

You sould appretiate Oka's kindness. He's like: "I don't have anything good for the likes of you, but at least wear these boots, your feet seem cold" unlike his usual - "here, I've got something for you *trollface*" *you finish putting -20 Plate armour of Okawaru's humour {-9Dam rF-}*

As far as gifts go, worshiping Okawaru is basically like having a really passive aggressive, possibly bipolar aunt, and it is your birthday.
