An early bailey provided 100 tomahawks of returning, for something else to do while waiting. Early luck also included the two rings of protection. Later on, great rings were scarce though.
Some stealth was very useful (coupled with Op's bonus) to avoid trouble or take it on my own terms. I generally kept shield training on a low priority, especially after getting to 11 - spells were fine and melee ok.
I did Shoals first as I had no rPois, which was mostly fine - a /invis helped a lot, and I avoided drowning to Kirke. Shoals upgraded my tomahawks to javelins (steel and returning).
Chei abilities were all crucial to survival, as was eventually learning Controlled Blink - every ?blink in the game was used or burned, mostly used, and only in situations where I felt death was very likely.
Depths was pretty crazy, fortunately Vaults was on U:2 (before the patch to make it 1-3, I think). I had to fight multiple tmons and golden dragons. I wanted to do Elf and Slime before vaults but with no MR or rCorr that didn't seem so hot. In fact the only usable MR item I found was the Elemental Staff, and using it all the time didn't seem so smart.
Vaults:5 featured a rather huge amount of personal stupidity (just to start , cblink is much better than ctele + blink) and I still can't believe I didn't die. If you want to see (including sgrunt helping me not die a little), !lm rchandra opfi br.end=vaults 1 -tv:<T92650:>T92850:new
Zot:1 had some super annoying jelly + yellow drac vault, and I was stubborn and didn't go find rCorr. so my hat and shield were very corroded and I was near-death many times. Afterwards I decided to switch from Spirit Shield to sInv hats, since I had Cblink anyway. Oh well I had plenty of enchant armour and nothing to use them on.
Zot:5 was mostly pretty easy - eldritch tentacle + melee killed most things (including an ancient lich that paralyzed me - thanks, no MR). But after I got the orb I was fighting two orbs of fire and decided to teleport. That took a while and sent me into the uncleared lung. a step from time made the situation less dire and another teleport got me out. A couple times on the orbrun I made a Malign Gateway before trying to escape from a panlord, and it killed it before the tele/blinks worked. One panlord had fire storm and I stepped from time again there.
I would not recommend OpFi * chei without spellbooks, I was very lucky to have useful ones.
