YASD - Pure bullcrap...

I didn't notice that my Flight spell is expiring when I was moving around the Vestibule of Hell (after clearing it) and drowned. That was my best character ever, she could memorise Ice Storm at Excellent and I wanted to see new places and get a few more runes. I feel quite cheated, it wasn't even in combat or anything. I think I won't play Crawl for a while, I'll wait until buffs are permanent in a stable version...

I played a SpCK (Lugonu) once who died in the Abyss; his Flight expired while he's on a lava and I just didn't get the warning for some reason (it was pretty hectic, demons surrounded him).

you can easily solve this by adding a force_more to your options.

force_more_message = You are starting to lose your buoyancy

then youll have to hit enter when its close to expiring and youll remember to recast it.

Same happened with spider-form and cling.
Was a very tough (surprisingly) draconian.

Well, I was about ready to restart the character, using this piece of advice to make sure that the game won't end the same way, but I've discovered that I had this option active all along, by default (I guess). Apparently it didn't help any. Quite disheartening.
