If everything is running just fine... YASD now DsWz

...then it's exactly the right moment to take a break.
This is just one of many things I had to learn while playing crawl...

But first things first:
So I am playing crawl again after a break of like 2 or 3 months.

Back then I played a lot for like 2 months and managed to descend a DsAK (which I played as a firestorming hybrid)
right to the Orb of Zot. After a crawl session of about 5hrs I grabbed the object of my dreams...
...and just got humiliated on my way back up.
It could've worked out just fine if I wouldn't have been that greedy and took a break to reconsider the whole situation instead.

After this I started some halfhearted attempts to get thus far again but literally gave up and took a break.

So here I am again and this time I want to keep things slow and efficient.
I started a game as DsWz and everything is too good to be true to this moment.

As you can see I am pretty lucky in finding some solid resistances.
Lair is just in front of me on D:8 and I'm totally happy with my mutations thus far.
I got a book with haste in it and to get things going now I just started training Fire for Fireball.

I just want to keep you guys involved in my current state so you can blame me if I'm messing things up.
I'm also going to tell you how the story of this character ends.
Don't expect me to beat the game. I just want to be some kind of responsible for my actions and hope I
don't end up doing something stupid like the flatfooted ascend last time...

Advice: Do some more dungeon before starting lair/orc, around 11-14. Since you've got a lot of MR you might want to poke into orc first, maybe can get some easy xp in orc 1-2. Also don't be stingy with consumables early on, if anything use them more liberally. However it looks like you've got that down since your cold/fire wands have been zapped plenty.

I would learn Repel Missiles to use when you run into archers. A pack of centaur can turn you into a pin cushion with it.

I would also training spellcasting so you can get more mana and spell levels plus cut hunger.

You are also going to need some more firepower. Area effect damage is important. Fireball is noisy but as long as you keep your escape routes open it can help you deal with the mobs you will be running into going forward.

I also like to use summon imp for those tough opponents/uniques. With 0.13 you can have 3 at once. They can help you get away or kill them for you.

Well I think this has to be enough for the main dungeon.
Even with rF++ I have a lot of respect for this guy.

Found another unrandart - the +5 robe of Kikubaaqudgha's Pride {Str+1 Acc-5}
Don't think this will be of any use for me though.

I pushed Conjuring Fire and Spellcasting a little further and learned IMB to confront the mottled dragon on D:12
where I am now too afraid to go to.

RM is online and on a decent fail rate just as Fireball.
I 'm never sure if Spellcasting for mana only is worth the EXP spent.
Hunger has never been an issue to me. Especially with the saprovore mutation.
I tend to raise Spellcasting only in order to get spell levels and mostly went okay with it.

Force Lance is really cool. I suggest you try it if you havent yet.
It can be very helpful getting those badasses that walk through long lines of conj flame to go back and walk through again. also it's single school conj like IMB, so doesn't check elemental resistances like fireball. And same cost as fireball but much more powerfull, as conj is ur highest skill.

If it's not inconvenient, you should train Air as well. It will help get DefMis online faster and will get the spell power on meph cloud up quickly; Swiftness also uses Air. The downside being negative apt in Earth, which you might want for LCS or IS later. Something to think about.

Found a staff of fire...
...and got stomped into the ground by a holy wrath sword wielded by Rupert.
Everything went a bit too good for this character.
I knew something like this would happen.
Maybe its me growing overconfident after entering Lair.
